One part of dog rescue that often gets missed is how much work it takes to make sure every pup is safely removed from danger and given proper care before finding a home.
It’s not easy, and it’s inspiring to see how many people are willing to help stray dogs in their communities get a fresh start.
This story follows a group of rescuers in St. Louis who got a call about a mama dog and her puppies living in terrible conditions.
Fear Held Her Still
After getting the call, the team from Stray Rescue of St. Louis headed straight to the location. They spotted the mama dog quickly.
She was so terrified that she couldn’t move. Her fear was overwhelming, and she wouldn’t even look at the people trying to help her.
It makes you wonder what kind of pain she must have endured to be so afraid of humans.
They didn’t want to scare her more, so they gently tried to slip a leash around her neck, hoping she’d calm down.
But she didn’t. One rescuer stayed by her side while the others went to get a crate to carry her safely.
Once she was secure in the crate, the team turned their attention to her puppies.
A Successful Rescue
They found the pups close to their mom, one by one. Some were so scared they cried as they were picked up.
The rescuers were patient and kind, helping them settle down and realize they were safe.
After gently placing all seven puppies in the car, they curled up and fell asleep.
The team returned for the mama and placed her crate beside her babies. It was time to head to the shelter.
At the shelter, they all got full medical exams to check for any issues after living outside for so long.
Once treated, they were given food and finally got a chance to rest.
We don’t know exactly what happened to this little family, but I’m sure they all found loving homes.
