Lily was discovered wandering the streets of Georgia and brought to the Fulton County Animal Shelter.
The staff felt heartbroken when they saw her sad eyes, almost as if she was silently asking for help.
Her past was a mystery, but everyone at the shelter was determined to give her the chance at a better life.
When Lily was taken to the vet, the team was unprepared for what they would find. Her scheduled spaying had to be stopped because the vet discovered she was heavily pregnant and already in labor.
Giving Birth Inside A Shelter
The staff did everything they could to find a foster who could take Lily in so she could give birth in a safe home. Sadly, no one was able to step forward, and Lily was forced to remain at the shelter.
It was devastating for the staff to watch her deliver in a kennel, where the risk of infection was so much higher.
Tragically, only one of Lily’s four puppies survived.
Her sole surviving pup urgently needed foster care, so long-time volunteer Traci Fcas shared a heartfelt post on Facebook, pleading for help.
“Now only 1 pup is alive and it needs a bottle baby foster!! Please help!!” Fcas wrote on Facebook.
Thankfully, a compassionate woman saw the post and offered to provide round-the-clock care for the fragile puppy.
While the staff was relieved the baby was safe, they couldn’t help but feel brokenhearted for Lily, who was left alone in her small kennel.
She curled up on the floor, clearly drained and confused, her eyes filled with sorrow. On top of her grief, Lily was also exhausted and in desperate need of a calm home where she could heal.
A Glimmer Of Hope
Days passed, and still nobody came forward to take Lily out of her kennel.
The shelter staff and volunteers, determined to keep her spirits alive, spent time with her every day. They talked to her softly, brought her treats, and tried their best to comfort her.
Despite everything she endured, Lily remained gentle and sweet. She wagged her tail shyly when given treats, almost as if she was showing gratitude for their love.
Then, Lily’s story took a hopeful turn. Fcas shared an update on Facebook that Lily had been placed in a trial adoption. She would now spend time with a family to see if it was the perfect match.
Everyone is wishing that this is the new beginning Lily has been waiting for. After such heartache, she deserves nothing less than a home filled with love and happiness.
