If dogs could choose their owners and the kind of life they want to have, they would choose kind humans who would give them all their love.
Sadly, countless dogs end up in the hands of heartless people who turn their lives into a nightmare.
Alicia, a one-year-old pup, lived through her own nightmare and didn’t know a way out. She spent her days chained outdoors, restricted to a six-foot circle.
Emaciated and desperate, the pup gave up hope that her life would change for the better.
Little did she know that destiny was about to surprise her with a new beginning.
Alicia Meets Her Heroes
Fortunately, animal control found Alicia and jumped to her aid. They were devastated to see the terrible conditions she lived in.
They took her to a shelter where she received a medical checkup and tested positive for heartworm.
Since the shelter staff didn’t have any resources to give her the necessary medical care, they knew they had to transfer her to a rescue.
When the shelter reached out to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, North Carolina, they immediately agreed to take Alicia into their care.
The rescuers were amazed when they met her for the first time. Despite everything she went through, Alicia was affectionate and grateful to them. She still believed that humans were good.
“When we met her, she wagged her tail. She looked at us with soft, grateful eyes. And she leaned in—gently—asking for a hug,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
Alicia wanted her caregivers to hold her like a baby. She felt safe in their arms and covered her heroes with kisses.
“She freely gives kisses like she’s making up for all the ones she never got,” the North Carolina rescue added.
The pup began receiving heartworm treatment and was put on a feeding plan.
From Abandoned To Deeply Loved
The rescue placed her in a foster home where she started recovering. For the first time in her life, she curled up on a soft blanket and played with toys.
Her foster family cared for her and gave her the love she never had before.
Luckily, with every passing day, Alicia thrived more. She realized that life was beautiful if you had the right people by your side.
Once she reached full health, Alicia started looking for her forever humans.
The same day she became available for adoption, the pup stole the hearts of a wonderful couple who gave her a forever home.
Alicia couldn’t be happier. Her family adores her and treats her like a princess.
From a malnourished pup who was tied to a chain and deprived of food and water, Alicia turned into a sweet and beautiful dog who enjoys her new life.
I’m incredibly grateful to the kind and compassionate people who helped the pup get a second shot at happiness.
Alicia will only know happiness from now on and that’s what all dogs deserve.
