Hunger is the top issue facing stray and abandoned dogs. Without food, it’s only a matter of time before tragedy strikes.
Food is absolutely crucial for pups to survive harsh outdoor conditions. Yet, only a fortunate few get a decent meal each day. The majority live off scraps, garbage, sticks, and stones—if they manage to find any.
Levey, a sweet dog with beautiful, mismatched eyes, was one of those unlucky souls.
She had been heartlessly dumped in front of an abandoned school and tied to a fence. No one knew how long she had been there, but by the time she was discovered, her condition was terrifying.
She Was Barely Hanging On
When a good Samaritan saw Levey tied to a fence outside a Missouri school, they were stunned. The poor girl had no access to food or water and was severely underweight.
They wasted no time calling animal control, who arrived quickly to assess the situation. Seeing how frail and weak the dog was, they brought her to Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
Though the SRSL team was currently full, they were eager to help Levey. She was close to a tragic fate and urgently needed support.
Luckily, the experienced team knew exactly how to help. After comforting Levey to ensure she felt safe, they developed a careful plan for her recovery.
“She’s scared, but already climbing into our laps for comfort and security. She weighs just 23 pounds,” the Missouri rescue reported on Facebook.
To avoid refeeding syndrome, Levey was given small meals around the clock, gradually reintroducing her to food. The transformation was almost immediate.
Just one week later, she was a different dog. Though still on the thin side and not quite ready for adoption, her energy had returned. And with it came her bubbly personality!
Ready To Embrace A New Life
All Levey wants to do now is play! She’s a cheerful, lovable girl who’s clearly thrilled about her new circumstances. She’s far away from where she was found and ready for the next chapter.
Even better, she’s incredibly sociable.
Levey has already made a best friend, Alaric, and the two spend nearly every moment together. They’re a perfect match and completely inseparable!
“Not only did you fall in love with them, but they have fallen in love with each other! They are both at a weight that is safe enough for them to leave the shelter and go to a foster home,” SRSL stated.
Soon, Levey will be ready to find her forever family.
Right now, she just needs a foster home with someone willing to follow her feeding routine and shower her with love.
