When Jordyn and Derek Slack opened their front door one afternoon, they were astonished to find an unexpected guest on the porch of their Tennessee home.
A severely malnourished Boxer puppy stood there, his ribs visible beneath a dull coat, gazing at Jordyn and Derek with pleading eyes.
He seemed to entrust his fate to them, believing they would offer kindness and compassion. Heartbroken by his condition, Jordyn gently stroked his head and vowed to help him.
Jack Is No Longer Alone
The Slacks brought the puppy inside, fed him, and offered fresh water. Jordyn immediately reached out to the local animal shelter, and within hours a rescue team arrived to transport him to the veterinarian.
After his initial shots, the vet confirmed that Jack, as the pup was christened, had no microchip.
Hoping to reunite him with an owner, Jordyn posted Jack’s story and photos across neighborhood Facebook groups, but received no leads.
Since he wasn’t dirty and showed no signs of ticks or fleas, they suspected he hadn’t spent long on his own.
When the shelter later asked if the Slacks could foster Jack for the weekend, they eagerly agreed.
The couple showered him with affection and attentive care. For the first day, Jack was overwhelmingly tired, spending most of his time sleeping as he recovered.
Once he regained strength, Jack met the Slacks’ daughter, Baylor.
From their first gentle touch, a special friendship blossomed: Jack followed Baylor everywhere and insisted on snuggling by her side.
“He has really taken up with our ten-year-old daughter Baylor. They are the best of friends. I think he has found his person. He follows her everywhere she goes… He loves and she really loves him…” Slack said in a TikTok video.
The family fell deeply for Jack and began to consider adopting him permanently.
The Pup Finds A Forever Home
Unfortunately, their French Bulldog could not coexist peacefully with Jack, whenever they shared a room, scuffles would erupt.
Though it broke their hearts, the Slacks accepted that they could not keep both dogs safely. Determined to find Jack a loving home, they declined to return him to the shelter.
Shortly thereafter, a kind retiree reached out, expressing interest in adopting Jack.
He and his wife had previously owned a Boxer they adored until his passing and, now retired, had ample time to devote to Jack.
“As soon as the lady sat down, he jumped up in her lap and was licking her on the face. It was really sweet and they were so excited,” Jordyn recalled on TikTok.
Now living in Athens, Tennessee, not far from his foster family, Jack enjoys regular visits from Baylor.
Although Jordyn and Derek miss him dearly, they take comfort in knowing they did what was best for the pup. His new family will dote on him and give him the life he so richly deserves.
