Kentucky Linemen Spot Stranded Animal On Floating Log And Rush To Save Him

Western Kentucky residents faced catastrophic flooding caused by relentless rainfall.

The disaster brought destruction and heartache to the region, claiming lives along the way.

In the midst of the devastation, stories of bravery and compassion began to emerge, reminding everyone of the goodness that still exists.

One such moment took place in Paducah, a city that was hit especially hard.

Taylor Colley, Josh Newsome, and Micah Joiner, linemen with Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation, were out on assignment to disconnect power from submerged lines.

While traveling through the area by boat, the team suddenly spotted something unusual that made them stop.

Looking Scared And Powerless

A tiny animal was balancing on a floating log, visibly frightened. As the team drew closer, they realized it was a wild rabbit barely managing to stay on.

He looked like he had given up hope of being rescued.

Colley and his coworkers immediately saw how serious the situation was. The current was fast-moving, and they had no time to waste.

“That’s not at all what you expect to see on a floating log in the water. We knew the chances of him surviving were very bleak if we didn’t help him,” Colley told The Dodo.

As they approached, the rabbit stayed still on the tree trunk. Although clearly nervous, he seemed to understand that help had arrived.

The kind workers gently lifted him from the log and brought him aboard the boat.

Soon after, the rabbit sensed he was no longer in danger and relaxed.

The linemen brought him to the nearest dry area and released him.

He hopped off, content that someone had stepped in when things felt hopeless.

The team was happy to have given him another chance. Leaving him there had never crossed their minds.

“We simply knew we couldn’t pass by him without trying to save him. We were all thankful that, between our own safety, teamwork and good morals, we were able to give the rabbit a chance to have a less ‘dampened’ future,” Colley added.

Stories like this remind us of the importance of stepping up when a life, no matter how small, is in need.

A big thank you to every rescue team and caring individual helping others through this natural disaster. Your kindness means the world.
