It is always painful to witness a helpless soul trying to survive alone on the streets. Sadly, it is something seen far too often.
This time, the story spread when kind people began sharing online posts about a German Shepherd who hadn’t left a single spot in Montebello, California, for several days.
The sight was heartbreaking, and it was clear that sooner or later, someone had to step in to save him.
Rescue From Despair

When Isabel Gallardo, an experienced rescuer from Marinwood, California, learned about the German Shepherd lying beneath a tree in Montebello, she rushed to help. But when she arrived, things proved to be anything but simple.
“When i arrived an AC officer had just parked and I told her I’m here for him. We tried for several hours to catch him, she called for back up but this boy said ‘not today ladies’.” Isabel wrote in her Facebook post.
Thankfully, Isabel had strong connections in the rescue world. Among them was well-known rescuer Suzette Hall, who came with a humane trap that finally allowed them to secure the frightened dog.

They named him Monte, and after days of suffering, he was finally safe. Isabel made sure to credit every kind soul who stepped in, including “Laurie Mitchel for so many things [she] can’t list, [her] invaluable friendship and rescue experience,” as well as “Laura [Bobadilla] for being the eyes in Montebello.”
In the end, Isabel brought Monte home with her, determined to give him the care he desperately needed.
Becoming A Whole New Dog

Just a few days later, Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, shared an uplifting update on Facebook.
“Before and after,” she wrote in her Facebook post. “This is the way it’s supposed to be , in a home and in a bed . Not dumped laying under a tree”
She explained that Monte had endured a great deal, but that they were working to “fix” everything step by step.
At the Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, Monte was diagnosed with anemia. Right after that “he got a medicated bath, flea treatment, dewormed, bloodwork, injection of an anti-inflammatory plus the cytopoint and antibiotics.”
“After a good few weeks of no fleas and a proper diet, we will get him neutered and a dental,” she wrote. “This sweet baby will be a whole new dog.”

Now, Monte is finally on the right path. His future is filled with hope, thanks to the rescuers who refused to let him fade away.
“We love you so much sweetheart,” Suzette wrote at the end. “We won’t give up on you like they did.”
