The call came out of nowhere; a tenant hospitalized, no family nearby, apartment still locked. It wasn’t unusual for him to handle emergencies like this, but something about it made him uneasy.
As he reached the door, he froze. There was movement inside, faint and irregular. It didn’t sound human. He leaned in closer, unsure whether he should open it or call for help.
The Missouri landlord knocked softly. The sound on the other side quieted for a second, then resumed, slower this time. Something alive was in there.
When he finally opened the door, the truth of what had been left behind changed the tone of the entire day.
A Beautiful Gesture
As a landlord, Carlos Salguero has a lot of obligations and doing that kind of job sometimes requires direct intervention if things go south.
Like it did recently. Salguero just happened to be in St. Louis, Missouri, when his office got a call from one of the tenants.
Apparently, the tenant had been hospitalized days ago, and couldn’t bring her dog with her, so she stayed in the apartment. She desperately needed help.
As soon as this plea for help was received, Salguero immediately reacted. He rushed to the apartment of his tenant and opened the door only to find that the dog was still inside.
The pup, named Bugatti, was a bit scared of this unknown man, but she quickly relaxed after realizing that this person only wanted to help.
Salguero realized that the dog was really lucky. She still had some water left in her bowl, but it was unclear if she had eaten anything or not.
An Amazing Reunion
He noticed that the dog was still a bit anxious, because she hadn’t seen her owner in a few days, so Salguero decided to help by taking her to the park.
Bugatti was so happy to meet Salguero that she wouldn’t leave his side. He also helped get the apartment clean, which was just an amazing gesture.
However, Salguero knew that it would be difficult for him to care for the dog, but he suspected that the other tenants were already likely familiar with the dog, so he went door to door to check.
He found out that one of the tenants also had a dog who was friends with Bugatti, so they agreed to help her until the owner got better.
The very next day, the Missouri owner got well enough to go home and it was time for a heartfelt reunion. Even though it was just a few days, it felt like an eternity for Bugatti.
She immediately sprinted into her mom’s lap, and it was just heartwarming to see. The owner was really grateful to Salguero for intervening when she needed it the most.
There was a real sense of community between them, and it was amazing to see that the dog was able to hold on despite being on her own for a few days.
While this incident must have been terrifying for the owner, it’s comforting to know that she has such good neighbors and a landlord.
