The greatest gift a dog rescuer can receive is seeing a dog they saved blossom into a brand-new pup. The satisfaction of knowing that a pup has received the chance for a new start just can’t be compared to anything!
For rescuers at the Utah shelter, that moment arrived after saving eighteen severely neglected and matted dogs, including Crawfish, a Labradoodle, from a terrible hoarding situation.
After being admitted to the facility, Crawfish was all fur and mats. His coat was so overgrown that he could barely see or stand. But, that was soon about to change!
Rescued From A Hoarding Situation
Everyone at Best Friends Animal Society in Utah was shocked the first time they saw Crawfish! Despite the fact that he wasn’t the first dog rescued from a hoarding case, Crawfish’s fur was so terribly neglected that he looked like a giant ball of fur.
The rescuers couldn’t see his face, he could barely stand on his feet, and on top of all that, his fur’s weight prevented him from walking.
All this sweet Labradoodle could do was lie down and hope his saviors would do everything to help. And, that’s exactly what they did!

Crawfish was about to have the most extensive grooming session of his life, but the good thing was – he was all in! He cooperated with the team beautifully. He didn’t show any signs of destructive behavior, even though the team expected it, given his past.
And, there it was: after hours of grooming, Crawfish was literally a brand-new dog!
“It took several hours of careful work to shave the mats off sweet Crawfish, and the difference was stunning. Who knew there was a creamy latte-colored dog beneath all that dark, knotted fur,” BFAS wrote on Facebook.

He looked nothing like his old self, physically and behaviorally. As soon as his overgrown fur was removed, Crawfish switched to being the sweetest dog ever.
His fear went away, and now, this fabulous Labradoodle is all about learning new things!
“As the mats fell away, so did some of his fear. His posture became less guarded, and his eyes, once uncertain, began to sparkle,” Utah rescue added.
Off To A New Life

Crawfish, as well as his former housemates, couldn’t be more thankful for their new looks! Thanks to their rescuers, all of them got a new chance at happiness, and Crawfish, in particular, couldn’t be happier.
Not long after his stunning transformation, he was adopted into a loving home.
“All of the 18 pups, including Crawfish, were adopted into loving homes where they continue to grow, play, and feel safe and loved,” the rescue concluded.
Next to Gavin, his new owner, Crawfish is learning all about life. He replaced a neglectful owner with a caring family and a loving environment, and every day, this Labradoodle learns something new.
So far, Crawfish has experienced walking on a leash, learning basic obedience, riding in a car, and meeting new people.
He still has a lot to learn, but there’s no doubt that with the right guidance, Crawfish will grow into the perfect companion!
