A fragile two-week-old puppy lay helplessly on the side of the road, crying out in desperation.
Cruel hands had separated the tiny baby from her mother, abandoning her and leaving her defenseless in a world full of dangers.
Badly injured, she couldn’t even crawl to search for the comfort of the mom she longed for. Though her tiny body was failing, her spirit hadn’t given up. She cried out as loudly as she could, hoping someone kind would hear her before it was too late.
A Race Against Time To Save Her Life
Thankfully, someone found her just in time and brought her to Bosley’s Place, a dedicated rescue and nursery for homeless and neonatal puppies in Smyrna, Georgia.
The staff was heartbroken upon hearing her faint, pain-filled cries.
It was clear the pup — later named Dumpling — was suffering. Her small body was covered in puncture wounds, and she was barely clinging to life.
Uncertain of exactly what had happened to her, the staff rushed Dumpling to a vet for an emergency examination.
Her condition was critical. Dumpling had several broken ribs and subcutaneous emphysema — air trapped under the skin due to her injuries.
She was placed on antibiotics and pain medication. Too weak to nurse, Dumpling had to be tube-fed by hand.
She was then moved into the nursery, where her dedicated caregivers kept close watch, doing everything they could to help her recover.
“All we can do from this point forward is provide her with the care that she needs and pray that she is strong enough to overcome the obstacles that she is faced with,” Bosley’s Place wrote in a Facebook post.
Although Dumpling battled a fever that night, she showed improvement by the next morning.
She was a little fighter, and her resilience started shining through. By day three, Dumpling had grown strong enough to begin nursing on her own.
Her caregivers showered her with love, cuddling her often and reminding her she was no longer alone.
With each passing day, her wounds began to heal.
Veterinarians later concluded that her injuries were likely caused by an attack from a predatory bird — a terrifying ordeal for such a tiny pup.
Dumpling’s Healing Journey And Happy Ending
Over time, Dumpling’s condition improved dramatically. Her broken ribs began to heal naturally, and the progress she made amazed everyone at the shelter.
With her playful and sweet personality emerging, Dumpling soon became best friends with Lentil — another rescued pup in the nursery.
Once she made a full recovery, Dumpling was ready to find her forever family. It didn’t take long before she met the perfect match.
She was overjoyed to meet her new family, who fell in love with her the moment they saw her. They gave her all the affection and comfort she had been missing.
Dumpling even has her own Instagram page, where her new adventures are shared with the world.
She now spends her days playing with her sister, Hazelnut Abbey — another pup adopted from the same Smyrna rescue.
From a wounded and abandoned puppy with a heartbreaking start in life to a vibrant, joyful dog, Dumpling’s transformation is nothing short of inspiring.
