Helpless and terrified… That’s exactly how Pluto, the brave pup at the center of this story, felt after being struck by a car and left to suffer alone on a busy highway.
Severely injured and barely clinging to life, Pluto could do nothing but lie there, waiting and hoping that someone kind enough would notice him, scoop him up, and promise that better days were ahead.
Thankfully, fate stepped in. A compassionate passerby spotted the wounded pup and quickly rushed him to safety.
From there, Pluto was taken to a shelter where an incredible medical team began the long and difficult fight to save his life.
Pluto Is A Fighter
The Georgia shelter staff immediately rallied around Pluto. Despite the odds stacked against him, they vowed to stand by his side as he battled through the hardest chapter of his life.
An X-ray revealed devastating injuries: a broken jaw, a shattered pelvis, and damage to his tail. Any one of those injuries could have ended his story, but Pluto had no intention of giving up.
For six long months, he fought with every ounce of strength he had. Multiple surgeries followed, and to everyone’s relief, he pulled through.
No one could say for certain if he would ever walk again, but his caregivers refused to let him feel hopeless. They poured endless love into him, filling his heart with encouragement.
Day after day, Pluto tried. Slowly but surely, he pushed himself to stand and take small, wobbly steps. The entire shelter cheered when he finally began walking again.
“Finally he did start walking again slowly. That was a huge moment of happiness and joy for us,” Emi, a shelter staff member, told Cuddle Buddies.
Once Pluto was strong enough to begin the search for a family, Waldo’s Rescue Pen, a rescue based in New York, stepped in to help him continue his journey.
Sweet Life In A Foster Home
Pluto was placed in a caring foster home. At first, he kept his guard up around his foster mom, Clare. She noticed his hesitation and wisely gave him space to decompress and adjust.
It didn’t take long for him to realize that Clare was someone he could trust. Gradually, Pluto opened up, leaning into her cuddles and showing off the silly, goofy side of his personality.
As the days passed, his bond with his foster family only grew stronger. He became affectionate, loyal, and endlessly grateful for the people who gave him a chance.
“Whatever I’m doing, he’s looking at me with so much affection. It’s the sweetest thing ever,” Clare told Cuddle Buddies.

Everyone at Waldo’s Rescue Pen has completely fallen in love with Pluto. They know that he will make the perfect companion for the right family.
He thrives on adventure, loves exploring the outdoors, and can’t resist soaking up affection. Even though he was once betrayed and badly hurt, his heart overflows with love for humans.
Nothing makes him happier than curling up with his people for a nap or climbing onto the couch for endless cuddles.
