Freya is not like other puppies. From the moment she walked into Emily’s life, she has been one-of-a-kind! Yet, her start in life was anything but kind, considering the circumstances under which she first came into rescue care.
This little Pittie girl was discovered in the woods inside a duffel bag. Her former owner abandoned her in a cruel act, leaving the defenseless baby Pittie completely vulnerable to the dangers around her.
Thankfully, the good people of Kentucky, USA, stepped in to give her the second chance she deserved.
And now, she’s thriving like never before!
Freya Was A Delight
Even though her story began in such a heartbreaking way, when Freya, the baby Pitbull, arrived at the Arrow Fund she was nothing but pure joy!
This sweet puppy had been born without her front feet and also had a fractured femur.
Because she was too tiny for surgery, the staff chose to focus on physical therapy. But even with all the challenges she faced, Freya greeted the world with a smile, grateful to have been found.
She was soon moved to the ICU for more treatment and evaluations, and that was where she first met Emily.
The Perfect Family For Freya
Emily Weedman, who worked in the ICU, had been searching for a new companion after losing her beloved puppy, Maki.
At first, Emily wasn’t sure if bringing Freya home was the best choice, since the little Pittie required so much care. But the moment she picked her up, everything changed.
“I looked at the screaming baby and wasn’t sure if taking a special-needs dog home was the best option for our family. Then my coworker leaned in and said, just hold her for a second. I opened her cage, picked her up, and the rest is history.”
Emily and her family quickly adjusted their home to make it safe and comfortable for Freya. Because her paw nubs had sores, they got her custom-made socks for protection.
Soft surfaces were placed throughout the house so she could move around without hurting herself. Freya absolutely adored her new home, filled with comfort, warmth, and love.
Meant To Be
Even though she couldn’t do everything other dogs could, Freya’s spirit never wavered for a second.
She played with Emily’s kids, bounced around the house and backyard, and when she grew tired, she curled up in her fluffy bed beside her favorite stuffed toys.
“I can remember the sigh she let out when I held her that first time, like she knew that she was meant to be my girl. Like she was meant to snuggle our boys. Like she knew she was a Weedman. I can’t imagine life without her.”
Once just a five-pound puppy, Freya has now grown into a strong forty-pound Pittie girl. And with her new life came a new name: Hanabi Nubbin!
Her family even created an Official Instagram page so people could follow her daily adventures.
From being abandoned in the woods inside a duffel bag to becoming the heart of a family, her story is living proof that love overcomes every obstacle.
