When rescuers, Hanah Hueston and Kathleen Orcutt, heard that there was a terrified Husky abandoned on a lake, they packed their gear and headed to her rescue.
Once they arrived at the spot, Hueston and Orcutt saw the doggo curled up on the dock.
The moment the pup, later named Mingo, spotted them, she got up and started walking toward the edge of the dock.
Mingo kept her tail tucked and her beautiful eyes were filled with immense fear.
The rescuers didn’t know what had happened to her but it was clear that she experienced trauma.
Mingo Is Brought To Safety

Orcutt slowly started approaching Mingo.
The pup bent her head. She tried searching for a way out, but she couldn’t move. Mingo was paralyzed with fear.
“And the closer I got to her, even as slow as I was going, she was looking around, looking for her exit route. She wanted to go past me, but she was too scared to,” Orcutt told The Dodo.
Mingo was standing on the edge of the dock not knowing what to do.
In case she decided to jump, her rescuers were ready to jump into the freezing water and save her.
Fortunately, Mingo didn’t jump into the lake and Orcutt managed to slip a leash over her neck.

The rescuers brought the pup to Vermilion County Animal Regulations and Animal Shelter, a shelter located in Danville, Illinois.
Mingo was confused and distrustful and the rescuers could tell that she lacked socialization. They were sure that she lived outside her whole life.

The doggo was extremely cautious and always kept her tail tucked between her legs. She growled when her rescuers tried to touch her.
They were patient with her and gave her time to get used to the shelter life.

They offered her treats and hoped to gain her trust. In order to bond with her, Hueston and Orcutt began touching her.
“We started just small, light touches, and if she didn’t like it, we would stop,” Hueston told The Dodo.
The Pup Starts Coming Out Of Her Shell

Things started changing when Mingo’s rescuers introduced her to a shelter dog named Ralphy.
When Mingo met him, she raised her tail for the first time and perked up her ears.
As time went by, the pup began trusting her human friends and regaining her confidence.
Hueston was thrilled when Mingo finally let her pet her. The pup was also happy and she had a big smile on her face.

Both the shelter and Mingo’s rescuers were proud of the progress she made. They hoped that she would find a loving and patient family who would help her heal her heart completely.
After spending three weeks with her rescuers, she left the Illinois shelter and moved to a rescue.
Luckily, the sweet Husky captured the hearts of a wonderful family who gave her all their love.
Huge thanks to her incredible rescuers who came to her aid and gave her a chance to have a normal and happy life.
