Washington Husky Watches His Brother Leave And Waits 538 Days For His Own Chance At Love

For many dogs, the shelter is a place of waiting.

Behind each kennel door, hopeful eyes search for a family that may never come.

Some dogs are chosen quickly, while others spend season after season listening to footsteps that never stop at their gate. Still, their hearts remain loyal, holding onto a love they’ve never known.

Among them is Bark, a six-year-old Siberian Husky whose story has reached thousands online. He arrived with his brother, Ozzy, after being surrendered by their previous owners.

Since then, days have turned into hundreds. Ozzy found his home while Bark is still waiting.

Bark Wahlberg came to the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington, in May 2024 with his brother, Ozzy, after their owner surrendered them.

At the time, Bark couldn’t have known how long he would stay at the shelter.

Both dogs had spent their lives outdoors, never knowing the warmth of a home or the touch of someone who truly cared.

Life in the shelter was a big change, but both pups quickly captured hearts with their charm and loving nature.

Volunteer Julie Saraceno from Pasco began spending time with them. She shared their stories online, hoping to help them find a home.

“He loves pup cups, going for car rides, and getting butt scritches. He leans against the door of his kennel with his booty out and literally begs for you to scratch his back! It’s the cutest thing,” she said in an interview.

Despite his loving nature, Bark’s chances for adoption were limited.

Siberian Huskies are energetic dogs that need experienced owners and plenty of activity. Bark also had to be the only pet in the home, which made things even harder.

Months passed, and Ozzy’s luck finally changed. After more than a year and a half, he was welcomed into a foster home.

Two weeks later, his foster family made it official. He was adopted by a couple and their young daughter.

Since the family speaks both English and Spanish, they joked that Ozzy would soon become bilingual, learning words of love in two languages.

While Ozzy settled into his new life, Bark kept waiting. His days consisted of spending cherished time with volunteers and lonely hours behind the kennel door.

A video that Julie shared showed him resting with his head near the bars while she gently stroked his fur through the gaps. The clip spread quickly, touching hearts across social media.

Messages poured in from people moved by his calm, patient eyes.

Many called him “handsome” and “sweet,” wondering how such a beautiful dog could still be overlooked. Julie never stopped believing his turn would come.

The lovely pup is still waiting at the Benton Franklin Humane Society.

Every morning, he greets the day with the same hope, watching the door and believing that maybe today will be the day someone stops and stays.

Somewhere out there is a family who hasn’t met him yet, a home where he can finally run freely. Until then, Bark keeps waiting with faith that love, even when late, is always worth the wait.
