Husky In Washington Shelter Climbs Onto Roof While Waiting For A Family

All dogs dream of one day living in a warm home, surrounded by people who love them and never let them go.

While wandering the streets of Othello, Washington, a Red Husky later named Luna thought about the family she once had and the home she longed to return to.

She searched the faces of strangers, hoping to recognize her former owners, but none of them were the ones she was waiting for.

Luckily, rescuers from Adams County Pet Rescue found her and brought her into their care.

The sweet Husky quickly won over the staff. They were certain she must have once belonged to someone who loved her.

Everyone hoped her owners would come forward to claim her, but no one ever did.

The Pup Tries To Break Free

Life inside a kennel was overwhelming for Luna.

The noise and commotion of the shelter left her unsettled, and she wanted nothing more than to be reunited with her family.

Only ten days after she arrived, Luna found a way to break out of her crate and climbed right onto the shelter’s roof.

“It’s happened again, except this time it’s a Husky on the roof! Maybe Luna’s climbing skills are the reason her owner decided not to pick her up,” Adams County Pet Rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

From up high, the Husky scanned the surroundings, as though she might see someone she recognized.

The staff rushed to guide her down and managed to coax her back to safety.

Luna Is Surrounded With Affection

The loving team gave Luna the attention she craved. They knew how badly she wanted to be in a home again, and they made a promise to help her get there.

She hoped every visitor might be the one to notice her.

Over the following months, Luna went through training programs and proved she got along well with other shelter dogs.

As she grew to trust the people around her, her sweet nature came shining through.

Still, no adopters chose her.

One year later, Luna had become one of the longest residents at the shelter. The staff adored her and never lost faith that she would eventually find her place with a family of her own.

Discovering Happiness In Foster Care

When the shelter partnered with the Ahtanum View Reentry Center in Yakima to begin a foster program, Luna was the very first dog they selected.

Meeting her foster family and program coordinators filled her with joy.

She left the Washington shelter with a smile on her face, finally getting the chance she had waited so long for.

Luna soon won over her foster family completely.

“She is seriously the [chillest] Husky I have ever seen, and I don’t know how she had been at the shelter for over a year. She is the biggest sweetheart, and everyone adores her,” Brianna wrote to Adams County Pet Rescue, later shared on Facebook.

In her foster home, Luna enjoys curling up for naps with her legs stretched against the wall and happily munching on treats.

She never misses a chance to snuggle close to the people caring for her.

I’m so glad Luna finally got the opportunity to live outside the shelter. Hopefully, it won’t be long before she finds the forever home and the love she’s been waiting for.
