Stray dogs weaving through crowded city streets is sadly something people have grown used to seeing. Even so, some scenes hit harder than others, especially one involving a beautiful white puppy left alone with nowhere to go, tied to a pole without shelter, safety, or even a little comfort.
That was the reality for a six month old white Husky in Santa Monica, California. Tethered to a roadside fence, the young dog spent days out in the open, facing the weather and the constant attention of strangers passing by.
And somehow, through all of it, he held on to his cheerful spirit. The Husky kept wearing a soft, hopeful smile, almost as if he trusted that sooner or later, someone kind would come and change his life.
Left Alone And Vulnerable
That moment of hope arrived when a local rescuer happened to pass by the very spot where the pup had been left.
She stopped immediately, stunned by the sight of the striking white Husky tied up and left out in the open.
Without hesitation, she contacted Love Leo Rescue, a compassionate organization known for helping dogs in need. Once the pup, later named Buckley, was brought into their care, his resilience amazed everyone.
“Buckley is an exceptional dog,” Love Leo Rescue director Sasha Abelson told The Dodo. “He is well balanced and loving and didn’t let his previous experiences change his lovely personality.”
As the team showered Buckley with kindness, he responded with joy and affection. His energy lifted spirits throughout the shelter.
Thankfully, Buckley didn’t stay at the rescue center for long. He was soon placed in a foster home, beginning a new chapter filled with love and care.
Starting Fresh With A Foster Family
Angela, a compassionate woman who had heard Buckley’s story, felt moved to help. She welcomed him into her home, and the connection between them was instant.
For the first time, Buckley had a reason to smile without fear. After surviving neglect and cruelty, he was now surrounded by warmth and safety.
“Buckley is a typical, happy-go-lucky husky,” Abelson said. “He loves playing with his dog friends and learning new skills. He loves going for hikes and also cuddling near his humans. He is just a perfect family dog.”
What Buckley didn’t know was that he was helping Angela heal, too.
“Buckley is such a great dog! He is our foster who has helped me in my recovery with PTSD. He needs to be active and needs routine…which turns out is part of what I need too,” Angela wrote on Instagram.
Though Buckley is still waiting for a permanent home, he’s thriving in foster care. Each day brings new joy and hope.
“Buckley would love to go into a home that is active and preferably a home with another playful, balanced dog,” Abelson said. “We think a dog brother or sister would be wonderful for him.”
With a spirit as bright as his snowy coat, Buckley is sure to find the loving family he’s been waiting for, one that will give him the happy ending he truly deserves.
