While out for a peaceful walk in the woods, a hiker from Massachusetts noticed something unusual along the trail. Curious, he stepped closer and was stunned to discover two abandoned guinea pigs.
Shocked and heartbroken, he quickly scooped up one of them, but the second bolted into the forest. Fearing for the missing animal’s safety, he immediately called his cousin, Elizabeth Wendell, for backup.
Sisters Step In To Help A Lost Guinea Pig

Elizabeth enlisted her sister Lucia, and together they headed into the woods to track down the frightened little creature. They knew it would not be easy to catch such a timid animal, but they were determined to succeed.
When they finally spotted it, the guinea pig darted deeper into the trees, desperate to hide.
“When we spotted him, he noticed us and started heading farther into the forest. We were super nervous because you could hear birds around and once he disappeared he’d be gone for good,” Wendell told The Dodo.
The sisters tried coaxing him with lettuce and even mimicked guinea pig sounds, but the animal stayed wary and hesitant.

At last, Elizabeth managed to corner the tiny runaway and safely scoop him up. Nearby, the sisters noticed a cardboard box, convincing them that the animals had been deliberately abandoned. The discovery left them deeply saddened.
From Cold And Scared To Safe And Loved

The second guinea pig was in rough shape: thin, cold, and clearly neglected. The sisters carried him to their car, offered some lettuce, and worked to warm him up.
At first, he seemed unsure of their touch, but once reunited with his sibling, everything changed.
“He was so happy to be reunited with his brother. They were making the sweetest noises at each other,” Wendell said.

The family reached out to the Guinea Pig Sanctuary in Massachusetts for advice on proper care. With guidance, Elizabeth, Lucia, and their cousin bathed the animals and arranged a veterinary visit.
Fortunately, despite the ordeal, neither guinea pig showed signs of lasting trauma. They quickly adjusted, enjoying food, warmth, and playful moments together.
Now fully recovered, the two guinea pigs have found a loving forever home with people who will cherish them for the rest of their lives.
