People like K. Salapek, a park ranger who didn’t think twice before rescuing a dog, are the true heroes of the modern world.
His act of kindness brings back faith in humanity and reminds us that there are still good people willing to help the ones in need, be it a human or a dog.
If it wasn’t for him, one family would be left without their beloved pet, as the poor German Sheppie wouldn’t have stood a chance against the hot weather.
A Pleasant Walk Turns Into A Cry For Help
A New Jersey man took his family dog for a walk through Tammany mountain, which is a popular spot for hikers and local residents because of the clear paths and wonderful views.
However, the owner of the German Shepherd couldn’t even imagine that this type of walk might be life-threatening for his four-legged buddy.
The GSD was already on the ground breathing fast and heavily, without energy to continue moving, when Lexie Daniels and her hiking buddies came across.
The owner was unable to move the pup, and the hikers had only a small amount of water which was far from enough to cool down the pooch.
Fortunately, a brave ranger showed up to save the doggie before it was too late.
Selfless Act Of Heroism
K. Salapek, who is a mountain ranger, came across a group of people on one of the mountain trails. As soon as he heard what had happened, Salapek picked up the dog and started walking towards a cold stream, which was located near the mountain bottom.
The trip to the stream was far from pleasant, as Lexie described in her Facebook post, but the ranger did not want to give up.
“This park ranger picked up this huge dog, threw him over his shoulders, and carried him down an incredibly rocky hill all the way down to the stream (it was a LONG distance), and laid him in the water as he knelt beside him and poured water on him. The ranger then picked him back up over his shoulders and walked all the way back down towards the street with this heavy dog. This was a couple miles of an incredibly rocky path.”
The whole trip to the owner’s car took about one hour, and the ranger carried the Shepherd as a soldier, without showing any other expression but concern for the doggo.
Last-Minute Trip To The Vet
The owner of the German Shepherd went ahead of the ranger to prepare everything for transportation. As soon as Salapek got to the parking lot, the owner took the dog to the vet clinic where he received proper treatment.
The German Sheppie and his owner are now safe and sound in their home, thanks to the brave man who saved the pup.
Salapek is truly an honorable person, which was also confirmed by his boss in one of the comments from Lexie’s post, where he wrote:
“Salapek is an awesome Ranger, and also very nice person!”
I would also agree with Lexie’s final words from the same post:
“This ranger deserves insane recognition and a standing ovation for his bravery, selflessness, and strength.”
Indeed, not many people would have the courage or strength to act in the same way as Salapek did.
