No dog should be forced to live outside, especially not on a chain.
Unfortunately, this was all Blue had ever known. She’d never slept in a soft bed, never seen the inside of a home, and never curled up beside a person on a cozy sofa. The only “furniture” she had was her chain.
Thankfully, right before her puppies arrived, someone kind stepped in and changed everything.
A Rescue Just In Time
Life hadn’t been kind to Blue. But she pushed through. She lived with a homeless owner for years, struggling every day until her story finally reached someone who could help.
Summer, a volunteer with Real Time Rescue, California learned about Blue just days before she was set to give birth. As soon as she met her, she knew Blue needed a better place.
“Blue is an approximately 5 year old pit bull, extremely pregnant and living outside on a chain,” the California shelter stated on their social media.
Knowing she wouldn’t get the care she needed where she was, Summer and the rescue team spoke with her owners. They eventually agreed to surrender her, and within hours, Blue was resting on a soft blanket, preparing for her new role as a mom.
The veterinary team created a cozy pen just for her, and before long, she went into labor.
With a caring team by her side, Blue gave birth to thirteen healthy puppies, far more than anyone expected. The litter was so large, her rescuers had to use color-coded collars to tell them apart.
But Blue didn’t need help recognizing her babies. She knew each one, cared for them attentively, and kept them warm and safe from the very beginning.
A Happy Ending For A Deserving Mom
Thanks to a foster named Cynthia, Blue and her babies had a safe and loving place to stay. Blue quickly picked up on house manners and embraced life as a family companion.
After weaning her puppies, Blue was ready for a home of her own. Even at five years old, she longed to be someone’s dog, and that moment finally came.
The rescue’s founder lived near a family who heard Blue’s story and immediately wanted to meet her. They waited patiently for her to finish raising her pups before visiting.
What they didn’t expect was that Blue would bond with them instantly.
“Blue was such an amazing mama to #thelucky13, and now it is her turn to be spoiled forever by her people, who have been waiting patiently for her! No more living chained outdoors, and no more babies for this sweet mama,” the rescue stated.
As soon as she realized she was heading to her forever home, Blue lit up. The family gave her the warm welcome she had always deserved, and she quickly stole the show with her sweet personality.
Today, Blue is living the life she never knew was possible, surrounded by people who love her deeply. She’ll never be chained again.
