A retired couple loves greeting Poppy, the, Corgi every day. The only problem is – whenever they try to reach her for a full cuddle session, the fence gets in the way. So, the couple decided to do something about it – and it was heartwarming!
The Relationship That Melts Hearts
Katie Sammon, from Minnesota, and her ten-month-old dog, Poppy, have a blast in their spacious yard. Poppy, who’s already learned all about socialization, loves meeting new people, and her neighbors were first in line.
Every day, she goes out for playtime, but before anything else – Poppy greets Gary and Dorothy, an elderly couple living next door.
Soon enough, a bond was formed, and greeting her beloved hoomans became a little ritual. Poppy absolutely enjoys being the center of attention for her neighbors, and those short cuddle sessions over the fence make her day.
The only problem is: sometimes, her neighbors have a hard time reaching her.
Instead of enjoying cuddles to the fullest, Poppy needs to stand on her back legs to reach Gary and Dorothy’s hands, as she is too tiny. To overcome this bittersweet obstacle – Gary, who spends most of his time in his garage working on various projects, decided to do something about it.
One day, Katie looked out of her window, only to find the most heartwarming DIY tool in her yard, right next to the fence!
Two Steps Closer To Her Beloved Neighbors
Katie, who jokingly told Gary and Dorothy that they needed some crafted steps to reach Poppy, was delighted when she saw them: custom-made wooden steps for the dog! It was truly adorable!
This sweet gesture from her neighbors really touched Katie, so she decided to record everything on video and share it with her TikTok followers. In just a few days, the post went viral, warming the hearts of millions worldwide.
“My neighbors love petting our Corgi but they have a hard time reaching her. Today I looked out and saw this. They build her steps to reach her better,” Katie wrote in the video.
Poppy, who previously couldn’t reach her owners properly, can now easily stand on the steps and enjoy endless cuddles – without breaking a sweat. Looking at his neighbor’s newest tool, it’s safe to say that she’s now only two steps away from her friends.
On the other hand, Gary and Dorothy no longer needed to bend over to pat Poppy. She is now perfectly reachable by hand.
Most viewers who found the video truly endearing commented that from now on, Gary and Dorothy are not only Poppy’s neighbors – they’re practically family!
“I know good neighbors when I see them,” one commenter wrote.
