Golfers usually head to the course expecting relaxation and a day of sport, not surprises. That was exactly the case at Garland’s Fire Wheel Golf Course, until a group noticed a furry figure in a nearby creek.
Their game stopped instantly as they rushed closer to see what was happening.
It quickly became clear that a dog was stranded on the edge of Rowlett Creek in Garland, Texas. The dog refused to move, and the golfers were hesitant to act alone.
Without delay, they called for help.
A Coordinated Rescue Effort

Once the call came in, rescuers from Garland Animal Services (GAS) quickly responded. Firefighters from the Garland Fire Department (GFD) also joined the scene.
“Rescue 8 was called out to help Animal Control reach a dog [who] appeared to be stranded on the bank of the creek at Fire Wheel Golf Course,” the fire department wrote in their Facebook post.
One firefighter immediately entered the creek and carefully made his way to the narrow bank where the motionless dog waited.

Initially, he tried to coax the dog into the water, but it didn’t work. The firefighter then shifted tactics, gently petting the dog to calm him.
This approach worked perfectly. The dog soon trusted the firefighter, who was able to lift him into his arms and bring him safely to solid ground.
The department shared the rescue video on Facebook, quickly capturing widespread attention.
It was later discovered that the dog had a collar with his owner’s contact information.
Reunited With His Family

Once they identified the owner, rescuers contacted Bubba’s mom, Joan Landry. She revealed the full story.
“This is my dog, Bubba,” Joan wrote in the comment section. “We’ve been looking for him for two [plus] days!!”
Her community in Sachse, Texas, had been searching tirelessly, but Bubba had not been found, leaving Joan heartbroken.
“I was crying for [two] days, walking [the] neighborhood, and neighbors were watching for him, too!!” Joan wrote in a comment.
Bubba had escaped four days earlier through an open gate. The relief of the rescue call brought back her smile.
Back Home Safe And Sound

When Joan received the call from the firefighters, she was overjoyed. She still wondered how Bubba ended up in the creek.
“Just the idea that he was in the creek is still puzzling. Did he just jump in and go for a swim because it was a hot day?” Joan wondered as she gave an interview for WFAA.
Despite the mystery, her happiness was overwhelming. Bubba was safe, alive, and ready to be reunited with his loving owner.
The reunion happened quickly, captured on camera by WFAA, showing the joy and relief of a pet parent finally seeing her dog safe.
The scene was a reminder of the special bond humans share with their furry friends, a love that can transcend any obstacle.
