Anyone who has ever lived with a Golden Retriever knows they’re among the happiest, most energetic dogs you’ll meet.
Still, every Golden Retriever owner also knows that they can be some of the most dramatic pups around. And, believe me, I’ve seen it firsthand.
Sometimes they’ll ignore you completely just because you’re a few minutes late coming home, or they’ll sulk if you pass on a game of tag.
These little moments mean a lot to them, and it’s best not to overlook them. But even for his Illinois family, who were used to all the theatrics, this sweet boy’s latest stunt came as a surprise.
A Little Dramatic

When it comes to putting on a show, few dogs can top Charlie. He’s an affectionate, happy pup, but his family will tell you he can also be “a little dramatic.”
They can recall plenty of moments when Charlie acted out of the ordinary. Once, his mom simply walked toward him, and he bolted around the apartment, convinced she wanted to play right that second.
On walks, he’s been known to get moody about his leash, biting it out of nowhere. His feelings about robot toys aren’t much better, except in those cases, the reaction is loud barking.
These small antics always give his family a laugh, but his most recent display of drama was something else entirely.

One day, the family decided to go for a walk, bringing Charlie along. The plan was for his mom to head into her pilates class in Illinois while Charlie and his dad returned home.
Simple enough, but Charlie wasn’t having it. When his mom was dropped off, he planted himself and refused to leave.
He didn’t grasp that she’d only be gone a couple of hours at most. In his mind, she might never come back, and he was determined to stay put until she returned.
His dad tried coaxing him along, but Charlie wouldn’t budge. He was too worried about his mom disappearing forever to go anywhere.
Online Reactions

As usual, his parents filmed the whole scene and shared it on Charlie’s TikTok channel.
It was safe to assume that the comments section would deliver — and it did.
One person commented: “The only acceptable answer is he must attend the Pilates class too.”
Honestly, at this point, that might be the only way to convince Charlie his mom isn’t leaving him, just stepping into a class.
Another person said: “a dog’s number 1 rule is we leave home together, we return home together.”

It’s hard to disagree. After all, what if something happens and your dog isn’t there to protect you? Having him by your side is always better.
Lastly, somebody commented: “There is nothing in the world that is stronger than a golden retriever who doesn’t want to walk”
True enough; though in the end, you could always carry him.
All kidding aside, Charlie’s story is a reminder of how much joy Golden Retrievers bring. Yes, they might be dramatic, but they’ll never fail to brighten your day.
