Every dog deserves to be loved… that’s for sure! Yet, somehow, many of them end up in the care of neglectful owners, like Linda.
After living her entire life confined to a tiny cage, Linda, the breeding German Shepherd, was left at a Florida shelter to spend her senior years in. As a final act of cruelty, her owner chose to abandon her, and it was heartbreaking.
Days turned into weeks, then months, and Linda never saw the light of day. Instead of getting a comfy bed, the only thing she received was a tiny kennel, completely shut off from the outside world.
Then, a girl showed up – and everything changed for this furry grandma!
Abandoned After Being Used For Breeding
Linda’s life was anything but easy. When she showed up in a Miami-Dade Animal Shelter in Florida, she had a terrible limp and heartworms. Linda was practically immobile and was flatfoot from being caged her entire life.
On top of everything else, the shelter environment only made her situation worse. She was in constant distress from loud noises, slowly fading and shutting down from the world.
One day, a girl named Sammy, along with her boyfriend, arrived at the MDAS facility looking for a dog, and their eyes immediately went to Linda. Sammy was heartbroken by Linda’s situation and her sad look.
Although she had no intention of adopting a senior dog, nor a German Shepherd, something about Linda made Sammy fall in love with her right off the bat. After a few initial trips around the city, she decided to give this sweet grandma pup a permanent home.
The two went home together, both delighted and slightly confused, not knowing what to expect from each other. Then, within weeks, Sammy realized: Linda was indeed her soul dog!
Truly Enjoying Her Golden Years
It didn’t take long for Sammy, a first-time dog owner, to realize that love was all Linda needed. After taking some time to relax and decompress, this German Shepherd girl completely came out of her shell.
Little by little, she started to walk, run, and do zoomies all over the house. Eventually, with proper treatment, her limp was completely gone, and Linda was now a healthy dog ready to start a new chapter of her life.
“She is now in her furever home with us and we could not be happier for our girl. We are so thankful her heart chose us,” Sammy wrote in an Instagram post.
So far, things she likes the most are her toys and daily trips to the beach. She enjoys sitting in the sand with her owners and just relaxing, appreciating every second of her life outside the cage.
And, despite her traumatic past, it’s safe to say that Linda is a perfectly behaved dog. She sits calmly during nail clipping and teeth brushing, and so far, Sammy has heard her bark only once – to warn her owners of a potential danger.
Linda is a mama bear, a shoulder to cry on, and a truly caring dog. She’s the perfect companion – one anyone should have by their side. And, most importantly, she’s finally enjoying her life to the fullest!
