Terrified Georgia Puppy Was Run Over By A Work Truck, Leaving Her Family Facing An Impossible Choice
A young Georgia Great Pyrenees puppy was meant to be a working farm dog, but a tragic accident left her severely injured. When her family couldn’t afford the care, an emergency vet stepped in to change her fate.
A Heartbreaking Arrival

An Impossible Choice

The extent of Kora’s injuries was uncertain, and her family was faced with a devastating reality.
They knew that the financial toll of her recovery would be immense, and they still needed a dog capable of working on their farm.

Aly, an emergency veterinarian at the clinic, wasn’t even supposed to be working that day.
It was her day off, but her coworkers knew there was something special about this puppy.
They called Aly and asked her to come into the clinic just to take a peek at the injured dog.
The Tail Wag That Changed Everything

When Aly walked in and met Kora, she was completely taken aback by the puppy’s spirit.
Despite the horrible, traumatic event she had just endured, Kora was still wagging her tail.
She was the sweetest dog, and that small gesture of hope captured Aly’s heart immediately.
A Tearful Surrender

Aly already had a lot of rescue animals at home, but she couldn’t let Kora’s story end there.
She sat down to chat with the puppy’s owners, and they agreed to surrender Kora to her care.
It was an emotional moment for everyone. They even hugged afterward, with the family expressing deep gratitude during such a hard decision.
The Road To Recovery

Saving Kora’s life meant putting her through pretty extensive surgery.
In order to save her leg, she had to be transferred to orthopedic surgeons.
The surgery alone cost between $3,000 and $4,000, followed by a week of hospitalization and stabilization, but Aly and her family were willing to do whatever it took.
Stepping Inside For The First Time

After a week in the hospital, Kora was finally cleared to go to her new home.
Her previous family had told Aly that Kora was an outdoor-only dog who had never stepped foot inside a house before.
Aly had no idea what to expect, but Kora quickly proved that she belonged right there with them.
A Package Deal

Kora got along with everyone in the house and was incredibly gentle with the family’s cats.
At the time, Aly and her husband were also fostering a kitten, adding to their house full of pets with special conditions.
Her husband quickly made a rule: if they were keeping the Great Pyrenees, they were keeping the kitten, too. Both were officially adopted in the same week.
Discovering The Joy Of Treats

Because Kora was on so many medications early on, she didn’t get to enjoy many treats.
Once she was safely through her recovery process, Aly started letting her try new things, and the puppy went absolutely nuts for them.
She especially loved mango, showing a funny “flehmen response” where she would aerate the food across her palate in pure excitement.
A Happy, Crazy Lady

Today, Kora’s leg is holding up great, and she loves running around and playing with her new family.
Her livestock guardian instincts still shine through, as she’s always the first to alert them if something is happening at an odd hour.
She has formed a remarkably close bond with Aly and her husband, transforming from a critically injured puppy into a happy, crazy lady who knows she is deeply loved.
