Overlooked For Years, The Friendliest Pittie At Pennsylvania Shelter Only Wants A Home

Overlooked For Years, The Friendliest Pittie At Pennsylvania Shelter Only Wants A Home

Isn’t it wonderful how some dogs, despite all the storms and heartaches in their lives, still choose to love?

Take Pongo, for instance. It’s even hard to count the number of times he sat in his kennel watching other dogs find forever families while he remained overlooked. Yet, he still chose to wake up every morning, wag his tail, and shower every single person with love!

Pongo’s actions are hauntingly cute. He does zoomies, plays with other pups, walks nicely on a leash, kisses every visitor, and melts into everyone’s laps. But, all these things have one thing in common: they’re rooted in the hope of finding his perfect match.

He Doesn’t Have A Mean Bone In His Entire Body

Pongo’s shelter story isn’t ideal, but his backstory is even sadder.

Before he arrived at Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley, Pennsylvania, Pongo spent days in an abandoned home after his owner left him. Hoping he’d see his hooman again, he remained patient, day after day, with not enough resources to live a decent life.

Fortunately, Pongo was eventually found by the landlord who took him to the shelter. And, the rest, as they say, is history!

Ever since he met his Pennsylvania caregivers, he’s been nothing but the sweetest dog. In fact, Pongo’s friendly nature is so lovable that it’s even hard to believe he’s a Pittie.

Still, among all people, Pongo has one person in particular who loves him most – his volunteer, Danielle. She saw him in the yard one day, fell in love with his personality, and soon enough, the two were inseparable!

“Pongo, he has never met a stranger, he has never met a person or animal that he did not like. He is just the sweetest, friendliest, most loving, and breaks every stereotype about the Pitbull breed,” Danielle told Cuddle Buddies.

To this day, Danielle makes sure to take Pongo out and give him the taste of freedom and family life. The fact that he’s still being overlooked at the shelter breaks her heart, and she makes it her mission to show people Pongo’s other side – the one when he’s not surrounded by kennel walls.

“Pongo HATES kennel life. He LOVES the real world and he knows it’s out there and he’s tired of living life without an active family to play with him,” Danielle wrote on her Facebook.

Still Hoping

Pongo definitely deserves to be in a loving home. So far, he has had several applications, but none of them have come through.

In the meantime, he and Danielle spend time perfecting this dog’s skills, including his training. According to his caregiver, this sweet Pittie would do best in an active family with a dog sibling

“Pongo will do best in an active home and quite possibly a dog sibling to keep him entertained,” Danielle concludes in another post.

After all – that’s who he is: an active boy who loves nothing more than playing and running in the yard freely, meeting new dogs and people.

Danielle and the rest of the team are hopeful that Pongo’s new adopters will knock on the door soon. It’s heartbreaking to see him part ways with the dogs he’s already formed bonds with, and he truly deserves his chance to find a loving home – hopefully very soon!
