All Sweet Potato wanted was someone to care for her and someone she could care for in return. Instead, what she received was cruel abandonment in a Florida park, leaving her to endure days of suffering.
The tiny pup soon faced a whirlwind of health battles.
When animal control finally caught her, Sweet Potato was considered too sick for treatment. The shelter marked her as beyond saving, and she was placed on the euthanasia list.
Struggling With Serious Medical Problems

After being brought to Broward County Animal Services in Florida, Sweet Potato seemed to have little hope. Her body was frail, her ribs were showing, and she was both emaciated and anemic.
Her sweet nature made it clear that she had once belonged to someone, which made her situation even harder to accept.
Because her medical needs were overwhelming, the shelter couldn’t afford to provide the necessary treatment. Sweet Potato was scheduled for euthanasia, and all chances of a future appeared to be lost.

Then Tri-County Animal Rescue in Florida stepped forward
When the rescue reviewed her condition, they were filled with compassion. Sweet Potato’s struggles went far beyond hunger. Without urgent care, she wouldn’t survive.
“She was rescued from the euthanasia list at Animal Control, where her severe medical needs exceeded their resources. She was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and suffering from a pneumothorax and a broken rib caused by trauma,” the rescue stated on Facebook.

She was rushed into veterinary care.
Her big, pleading eyes begged for another chance, and the Florida rescue team knew they had to fight for her.
Sweet Potato Refuses To Give Up

Calling Sweet Potato a fighter doesn’t even cover it.
She faced her recovery head-on with remarkable strength. Her treatment included specialized care, X-rays, ultrasounds, IV fluids, anti-inflammatories, bloodwork, and a diet created just for her needs.
To make sure she received constant attention, the staff monitored her around the clock.
At one point, when her condition grew critical, she even went home with the hospital director for a full day of care. The team’s persistence, paired with Sweet Potato’s will to survive, worked wonders.

Now, she’s no longer in immediate danger, though her recovery still continues. Slowly, she’s learning to feel safe again and discovering joys she missed out on before.
“Day by day, she’s regaining her strength, her trust, and her joy. Her wagging tail and loving personality are proof that hope can triumph over hardship,” the rescue concluded.
Once her healing is complete, Sweet Potato will take the next step of her journey: finding the family she was always meant to have. She’s more than ready for that day to arrive.
Be safe, sweet girl. A brighter life is waiting for you.
