Where could he have gone?
Surely he had not wandered very far. He was far too small and fragile to play an extended game of hide and seek.
So where could this tiny Beagle possibly be hiding?
After checking every room in her home and even asking her other dogs for help, foster mom Lindsay finally found River, the missing Beagle puppy.
What shocked her most was not just where he was, but the fact that he had been right in front of her the entire time.

Searching High And Low
Lindsay Lenz, a dedicated animal caregiver from Higbee, Missouri, operates a farm sanctuary called Just One More.
Her property provides care for more than 200 animals, including dogs who have been injured, abandoned, or left without mothers.
When Lindsay learned about a large rescue operation carried out by the Moberly Animal Shelter in Moberly, Missouri, she felt compelled to step in.
A group of Beagles had been rescued from a hoarding situation, and one puppy in particular needed immediate, specialized care.
That puppy was River.
He was the only Beagle listed in critical condition, and Lindsay volunteered to foster him, determined to give him the best possible chance.
“Initially, he was very sick,” Lenz told The Dodo. “He had little to no energy, and slept most of the time. I made him his own kennel with a heating pad and multiple food options. For the first two days, I had to tube-feed him formula and medications … It was touch and go. On the morning of the third day, I was woken at 7 a.m. by the loudest, tiniest little howls! River woke up, and wanted to come out!”
Once River began to gain strength, Lindsay’s main concern became keeping an eye on him. His size made it easy for him to slip into places she might not immediately notice.
Then something frightening happened. River disappeared.
Panic Sets In
At first, Lindsay stayed calm. Puppies on the farm had gone missing before, only to be found asleep in strange corners or tucked into cozy spots. But after fifteen minutes passed with no sign of River, worry quickly turned into fear.
She searched room after room, checking under furniture, behind doors, and inside blankets. Still, there was no sign of the tiny puppy. Feeling desperate, Lindsay picked up her camera, hoping a different angle might help her spot him.
That was when she finally saw him.
“Tucked up asleep on top of the bin of dog toys,” Lenz said. “He was blended right in with all the stuffed animals … Initially, I was shocked, then laughed for a solid five minutes! I had LITERALLY walked past him at least a dozen times while searching. He was literally hidden in plain sight!”
One of Lindsay’s other dogs, Poobie, had been lying beside River the entire time but never gave away his location.
River, for his part, seemed completely unbothered by the concern he had caused. He looked up at Lindsay with sleepy eyes, appearing mildly annoyed at being disturbed from his nap.
A Short Life Filled With Love
When River first arrived at the farm, his fragile condition made every small improvement feel like a victory. Despite everything he had endured, he showed a strong will and a gentle spirit.
He adjusted well to life in the sanctuary, but one spot quickly became his favorite. The basket filled with plush dog toys offered warmth, comfort, and the perfect camouflage.
After Lindsay shared the video of River’s hiding place, it quickly went viral. From that point on, the toy basket became River’s preferred nap location and his personal safe zone.
Sadly, River’s story did not have the ending everyone hoped for. About a month after arriving at the farm, his health took a sudden turn.
Complications from anemia caused by coccidiosis became too severe for his small body to overcome. River passed away peacefully, leaving behind a deep sense of loss.
Though his time was brief, River’s presence left a lasting impact. His journey touched Lindsay and countless others who followed his story, reminding everyone how meaningful even a short life can be.
