Connecticut Family Who Heard Loud Noises From Inside Their Stairs Finally Finds Out What It Was

When a family in Banbury, Connecticut, heard some faint, high-pitched cries, they knew something wasn’t right. Curious and concerned, they set out to find the source.

As they followed the sound, it led them toward their concrete porch. There, they spotted a mama cat with two tiny kittens, but they clearly weren’t the ones making the noise.

Determined to get to the bottom of it, the family kept searching.

A Mystery Beneath The Steps

Eventually, they noticed a slim gap between the steps and the house, just wide enough for a small kitten to slip through.

They paused and waited. The crying started again — this time, unmistakably coming from inside the opening.

Realizing they needed help, the family quickly reached out to the Danbury Fire Department (DFD).

“Tonight, a family discovered two small kittens who had fallen between a masonry wall and some pre-cast concrete stairs. The two kittens had fallen just far enough down where they couldn’t be reached and pulled out, and their heads were stuck tight between the concrete,” wrote the DFD on a Facebook post.

A Delicate Operation Begins

At first, the firefighters attempted to rescue the kittens from above. But it quickly became clear that this wouldn’t work. They needed a new approach.

That’s when they came up with an innovative plan involving rescue airbags.

“Utilizing rescue [airbags], just enough force was exerted to add about [a quarter] inch of space, allowing the kittens to fall into the void below the stairs,” they wrote.

The gentle pressure gave the kittens just enough room to slip loose and fall safely to the bottom… thankfully, without injury.

Meanwhile, the firefighters sprang into action from the other side.

“[The] firefighters removed two rocks in an adjoining wall, and then they were able to reach in with a snare and capture both kittens,” stated the DFD.

After a tense and careful effort, both kittens were finally freed.

Cheers rang out from those watching the rescue — neighbors, family members, and even the mama cat herself seemed relieved.

“The two rogue kittens were reunited with their mom and siblings, and the neighborhood was relieved that the kittens were alright,” the department added.

A Happy Ending

With their adventure behind them, the curious kittens were happily back where they belonged: safe and warm with their family.
