North Carolina Family Surrendered Their Senior Dog To Shelter But Then Something Amazing Happened

When a senior dog from North Carolina named Sammy needed love and care the most, his family brought him to a shelter to surrender him.

The last thing he needed was life behind kennel bars.

The fifteen-year-old dog had masses on his body. He was weak and found it difficult to walk on slippery floors.

Chrissy Elder, who leads Forgotten, Now Family Rescue (FNF) in Charlotte, North Carolina, knew the shelter setting would be a tough place for him to adjust.

Fortunately, she happened to be at Animal Care and Control just as Sammy’s family was about to say goodbye to him for good.

Sammy’s Luck Changes

The kind-hearted woman gazed at Sammy’s sweet face, covered with grey fur, and into his soulful eyes. She couldn’t let him spend his golden years at the shelter, and she decided to help him.

“I would do anything to make sure he finds a safe place to land his sweet old bones,” Elder told The Dodo.

She spoke to his family and convinced them to surrender the dog into her care.

Sammy’s former owners agreed. Elder hugged the doggo, and promised to do everything she could to help him.

Sammy felt that he could trust his rescuer, and he let her help him. At the time, he had nobody else but her.

He was grateful to his rescuer for her love and support. It didn’t take long for the dog to reveal his sweet personality.

Within two days, Elder found Sammy an experienced foster family who pampered him with the care that he badly needed and gave him a ton of love.

Sammy felt safe and relieved to be in a loving home.

Feeling Loved Again

His foster family did everything they could to make him feel comfortable and happy. They even threw him a party for his 16th birthday.

“He’s made so many friends, found so much comfort, and today they celebrated his 16th birthday in style,” FNF wrote on Instagram.

Sammy felt like royalty as he wore a crown, nestled into a luxurious blanket. He was delighted with his birthday cake and tasty treats.

However, what Sammy loved the most was the warmth and affection that his foster family showed him. His greatest gift was that he didn’t have to spend his birthday in a lonely shelter kennel.

Although the senior doggo lost his family and the only home he ever knew, he found hope for a better tomorrow.

Thanks to Elder and his wonderful foster family, Sammy doesn’t need to worry about his future. They will make sure that he always has the best possible care and the love he deserves.
