When puppies are tiny, it can be easy to mistake them for a completely different breed. You might think you know what they are, but later find out the truth is something else entirely.
As they grow, certain features start to appear that resemble other breeds, and it can make owners wonder if they brought home the wrong dog.
Sure, it happens, but it doesn’t change the fact that these furry friends are still just as lovable.
For one California family, something similar occurred. They thought they were adopting two Cane Corso puppies, only to discover they were actually something different.
Quite An Unexpected Discovery
When a California family welcomed two Cane Corso puppies into their home, there was no reason to doubt their breed.
Maya Pugh began to suspect her parents might not have adopted Cane Corsos after the puppies started developing traits that looked more like another breed.
At first, she and her parents simply questioned it. The breeder they got the dogs from had assured them the puppies were Cane Corsos.
Did the breeder mislead them? What was the truth? Maya shared a video on her TikTok channel, and viewers suggested the pups looked like Black Labradors.
The family wasn’t satisfied with that guess, so they decided to get a DNA test to be sure.
The results showed the puppies were actually a mix of several breeds: Rottweiler, Labrador, Doberman, Bully, and surprisingly, “horse mix.” No one quite knew what that meant.
It turned out they came from an accidental litter. The breeders offered to take them back, but the family refused.
By then, they loved the puppies too much to part with them. All they wanted was to know the truth, and now they did.
Internet Responds To The Revelation
When the California family shared the DNA results online, people were stunned and left countless comments.
One person commented: “Why do ya’ll always immediately assume they’re going to a shelter? Just bc they’re not breeded correctly doesn’t mean there won’t be a happy and loving family to take them.”
To be clear, the family has no plans to return the puppies. They are thrilled to have them in their lives.
Another person said: “This happened to me last year we had what we thought was a Canne/pit mix after months of his being smaller the owner told us it was a Canne/dasch (wiener dog)”
Stories like this are more common than people think. Sometimes breeders don’t tell the truth, and other times, it’s an honest mistake.
Lastly, somebody commented: “So my guess is Doberman lab cane corso mix they are beautiful. To the parents I’m sorry people are being so negative.”
This guess was partly correct, but the real mix turned out to be far more varied. In the end, these pups have a loving home, and that’s all that really matters.
