Florida Family Gives Up On A Husky Before Anyone Knows How Sick She Really Is

Honey had already learned how painful it felt to lose a place that was supposed to be home.

The sweet Husky carried that sadness quietly, but she also kept going with a kind of strength that said she still wanted to believe in people. More than anything, she needed one safe, loving family that would finally let her stay.

For a while, it seemed like that wish had come true.

A family in Tampa, Florida, adopted Honey during an event held by Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center. After so much waiting, it looked like she had finally reached the happy chapter she deserved.

But just as she started settling into that new life, everything broke apart again. Honey was left hurt, confused, and alone once more.

Abandoned All Over Again

After five years in her first home, Honey was surrendered when a family member developed an allergy. Though she was heartbroken, she kept her spirit alive, hoping someone else would one day love her.

When she was adopted again, it seemed like her second chance had finally arrived. But just weeks later, she was returned once more, this time for a devastating reason. Her new family said she was “boring.”

“The adopter found that she didn’t eat much while in their care and showed little interest in treats. She had no interest in toys or playing. Honey is very quiet, calm, and spends most of her day sleeping,” volunteers wrote on the Rescue Me Tampa page.

Dropped back at the shelter, Honey’s future looked uncertain.

Thankfully, her story caught the attention of Julie Bassett, a rescuer with Husky Life Rescue in Polk County, Florida. Julie arranged for Honey to be moved into a loving foster home where she could rest and recover.

At ten years old, or so everyone believed, Honey seemed tired and withdrawn. Her gentle nature was still there, but her low energy hinted that something deeper was wrong.

The Truth Behind Her Sadness

A vet visit revealed the heartbreaking truth: Honey wasn’t “boring” at all. She was very sick. Even more shocking, she wasn’t ten, but actually fifteen years old.

“Honey was taken to the veterinarian today. We have been informed that honey is actually closer to 15 years old. Her liver and pancreas were elevated quite high. She does have a UTI and respiratory infection. It’s no wonder she was ‘boring.’ Kind of hard to be motivated when you feel so bad,” Husky Life Rescue wrote on Facebook.

Julie was crushed by the diagnosis but determined to help. Honey was admitted to North Polk Animal Hospital, where she began treatment immediately.

Within just two days, Honey started to improve. Her appetite returned, and her eyes began to sparkle again.

Thanks to medication and pancreatitis therapy, she grew stronger with each passing day. Despite everything she had endured, her loving personality began to shine.

Honey loved belly rubs, soft beds, and gentle affection. Her tail wagged again, showing she was finally beginning to feel safe.

Though she still needs time to recover fully, Honey’s future looks far brighter. For now, she is surrounded by care, warmth, and love, the very things she had been missing for so long.
