Every pet parent’s worst nightmare is losing their beloved furry family member. The fear, worry, and uncertainty about whether they are safe can be overwhelming.

A Terrifying Find
Late one night, an employee at an Omaha accounting firm heard strange noises coming from a dumpster.
She assumed it was a raccoon searching for food, and since it was dark, she decided to leave it alone, hoping someone else would check in the morning.
When she returned the next day and opened the lid in daylight, she was horrified by what she found. Inside the dumpster was not a raccoon, but a terrified puppy wrapped tightly in duct tape.
His entire face had been covered, his hind legs were bound together, and his tail had been taped down. His fur was matted with food scraps and debris, leaving him barely able to move.
The shaken employees called Animal Control immediately, determined to get the puppy help as fast as possible.
“I have never seen anything like it,” said Kevin W., one of the employees who made the discovery.
The puppy was rushed to the Nebraska Humane Society, where a veterinary team was already preparing to treat him.
Finally Safe
Upon arrival, veterinarians sedated the puppy so they could carefully remove the layers of tape. The adhesive was so strong that parts of his fur had to be shaved off to prevent further injury.
The team worked patiently, ensuring every strip of tape was removed without causing more pain.
Once freed, the little pup’s demeanor transformed. He wagged his tail, gave kisses, and eagerly soaked up affection from his rescuers.
A full medical exam followed, and aside from mild skin irritation, he was in good health.
During the checkup, the team discovered a microchip. It revealed his name, Leo, and provided contact information for his family.
A Joyful Reunion
When Leo’s family was contacted, his mother, Erin, was overwhelmed with relief. She had reported him missing the moment he disappeared and had spent days fearing the worst.
“He’s the sweetest dog! I don’t know why anyone would do this,” Erin said.
Leo was finally back where he belonged, safe and loved once again. His family was devastated by what he had endured but thankful beyond words that he was found alive.
Investigation Continues
The dumpster where Leo was discovered was in an area with no surveillance cameras, making the investigation more challenging.
The Nebraska Humane Society is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
A $1,000 reward has been offered for tips that lead to an arrest connected to Leo’s case.
Thanks to quick action and compassion, Leo’s story ended with a reunion instead of tragedy. But his ordeal serves as a chilling reminder of why vigilance and kindness are needed more than ever.
