Failed by his owner and discarded without care.
That just about sums up this little one’s beginning. In a world already uncertain, he was forced to face his own nightmare when his owner left him behind in an outdoor toilet.
Terrified and deprived of even the most basic comfort, he had no way to fight back. At only eight weeks of age, surviving alone seemed impossible.
But, he wasn’t left to suffer forever.
When it looked like there was no way out, someone kind finally appeared.
Left Alone To Struggle
A woman came across the puppy lying on the bathroom floor and quickly acted. She reached out to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control in Indiana and reported the condition the little dog was in.
The puppy was extremely underweight. His spine and ribs were visible, his paws were stained with urine, and he clearly hadn’t been cared for.
“This sweet boy was malnourished with his rib cage and spine showing, had urine-stained paws and overgrown nails, and was quite scared. Our medical team examined his overall health, and the main concern was getting him to a healthy weight,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Beyond his urgent medical needs, the staff wanted to make sure he felt loved. Carrying such a heavy trauma, he was frightened at first. But only a few minutes later, his real self began to shine through.
He warmed up quickly to his rescuers, acting like he had belonged with them all along.
Once he arrived at the shelter, he turned into a complete lapdog. For the first time, he soaked in what it meant to be cherished, and he loved showing his affection right back.
During his healing, the team created a tailored diet plan just for him. Their focus was to help him regain strength while protecting his delicate stomach.
A Remarkable Reminder Of Forgiveness
After his rescue, the pup moved into a foster home, and it proved to be the perfect step for him.
From the moment he met his foster family, he showed nothing but sweetness, finally given the chance to live the life he deserved.
“This precious boy has been a little wiggly angel despite being failed by the person that was supposed to care for him. Once his excitement for you calms down, he loves curling up in your warm lap. What a testament to how forgiving animals can be,” his caregivers wrote on Facebook.
The Indiana rescue happily shared updates about his very first day with the foster family. The only thing missing was a name, so they asked their followers online to help.
Not long after, the decision was made.
“The puppy that was found abandoned in a porta-potty now has a name…Louie! ✨ The name translates to ‘famous warrior’,” the rescue wrote in an update.
For now, Louie will be learning how to socialize and practicing his manners with the other dogs in the home. Settled into a warm space filled with people who care, he’s enjoying every moment of his fresh start.
When the right time comes, there’s no doubt Louie will find a forever family of his own. After everything he’s been through, all he truly wants is a home where he will never be abandoned again. And he certainly deserves it.
