Imagine living your entire life in a loving home, surrounded by nothing but happiness, only for it to end in one day.
This is exactly what life has been for Tulip and Buffy, two sixteen-year-old female dogs from California. After a lifetime of coziness in a forever home, Tulip and Buffy found themselves in a shelter at no fault of their own.
Lost, anxious, and trembling with fear, Tulip and Buffy couldn’t understand why they suddenly had replaced a spacious home with a tiny, cold kennel.
From Loving Home To A Cold Kennel
When Tulip and Buffy arrived at the Palmdale Animal Care Center in California, they couldn’t be more confused. Everything they once knew was gone in the blink of an eye.
“These sweet girls lost their home at 16 years old. Everything they knew and loved was ripped away from them in an instant,” Northwest Dog Project (NWDP) wrote on Instagram.
Then, a few days later, a spark of optimism emerged.
A family showed up at the Center, inquiring about these two senior girls. Before long, Tulip and Buffy were adopted again, and the staff couldn’t have been happier.
However, their happiness was short-lived.
The pups experienced another heartbreak when their new family brought them back to the shelter, too, just because Tulip and Buffy “didn’t do anything.”
“Adopted a few days ago and returned because they ‘didn’t do anything’ 🥺 I’m actually glad they came back so that NOW we can help them find a home where they’ll be cherished and adored,” Rita Earl Blackwell, one of the shelter’s volunteers, shared on Instagram.
The amount of pain these sixteen-year-old dogs must have gone through was unimaginable. So, when the crew from Northwest Dog Project received a text about Tulip and Buffy, they decided to help.
“They have gone through too much heartbreak in a short period of time, and we want nothing more than to CHANGE that,” the rescue added.
In just a few days, the dogs have been transferred from the shelter to a cozy foster home, awaiting their new life chapter.
New Chapter
Today, Tulip and Buffy are as far from being confined in a kennel as possible. Currently in a foster home, receiving much-needed TLC, the dogs are building toward recovery.
Their next destination will be NWDP’s senior dog sanctuary, a nurturing place for seniors abandoned in their golden years.
“They are settling into their temp foster home, where they’ll stay cozy until they can make the trip here to join the #nwdpseniorsanctuary 🙌🏼 We are so excited to meet them both, and know you all are too,” NWDP concluded.
Once in the sanctuary, Tulip and Buffy will enjoy a cozy environment filled with toys, cozy beds, and lots of friends.
There will be no kennels, no fear, and definitely no risk of euthanasia.
In the meantime, their caregivers will work on finding these adorable pups a suitable home. But for now, they’re just happy to see Tulip and Buffy thrive.
