Is there a better life for a dog than to spend its entire life in one home, next to a loving owner?
While this is a sweet reality for many, Roxanne, a thirteen-year-old Boxer mix from Georgia, didn’t have that luxury. Just when it seemed that she would get to enjoy the rest of her golden years surrounded by nothing but love, tragedy struck her family.
In one day, Roxanne went from being a family dog to becoming a shelter dog, with her future as uncertain and unpredictable as possible.
She Lost Everything
Roxanne’s story, told by Bruna, a volunteer at Cobb County Animal Services in Georgia, shocked thousands of her social media followers.
After her owner tragically passed away, this sweet senior pup ended up homeless in a devastating turn of events. Her family could no longer care for her, and they surrendered Roxanne to the shelter.
“Our hearts hurt for Roxanne. Her owner passed away and there was no family that could care for her,” Roxanne’s Petfinder profile reads.
All of a sudden, Roxanne, a dog who once had everything, now had nothing.
Being confined in a tiny enclosure in the shelter was confusing for Roxanne at first. She was heartbroken by the sudden change of circumstances, but one thing she never lost was her smile.
She was still a sweet dog eager to meet friends and share love with everyone, which is why Bruna decided to do something about it.
“She is a sweetheart and despite everything she seems to be taking it all in stride. She knows to sit when asked but it is a bit difficult. She loves to walk and has pep in her step when on the leash. She should not spend her golden years in a shelter,” her profile continues.
She posted Roxanne’s story on TikTok and Instagram, hoping to help the dog get the second chance that she desperately needed.
From Hope To New Start
Roxanne’s video soon took the internet by storm. People reached out, expressing their empathy and understanding for her situation, hoping to see this girl finally reach her ultimate goal – to leave the shelter with good news.
“Poor sweet baby. Hope someone sees your beautiful smile, fall in love with you and give you a warm cozy home,” one commenter wrote.
“I can’t imagine, someone must give her the twilight years her owner would have wanted. Please please save her and love her,” another added.
In the meantime, Roxanne patiently waited between those four walls. She didn’t stop wagging her tail, smiling at volunteers, or hoping. And, it eventually worked out for her.
Days after her original plea, Bruna posted an update everyone had been waiting for: Roxanne’s adopters were on their way!
To make things even more stunning, her new family drove all the way from Pennsylvania to Georgia, giving this story a whole new dimension.
“A family drove 12 hours all the way from Pennsylvania to Georgia just to adopt Roxanne,” Bruna wrote in the video.
Roxanne’s dream of spending the rest of her life with her beloved owner may have been heartbreakingly cut short, but her story didn’t end there.
She’s now getting to live her best life exactly as she deserves: curled up in a cozy home, lounging on a comfy couch, and soaking up endless cuddles from her new hoomans!
