Many dogs bark at anything they notice, often so much that their owners stop paying attention.
Shelly Lisi, who lives in a rural area with a farm field on one side and a horse farm on the other, is used to her two dogs “calling” out whenever an animal passes by. Usually, the animal quickly runs off and the barking stops.
This time, though, things were different because the dogs just kept barking. That struck Lisi as odd, so she decided to head out into the yard to check what was going on.
She was in for a sweet surprise.
Tiny Guest
The barking went on for nearly twenty minutes, which was a clear sign to Lisi that her dogs were trying to “tell” her something.
When she stepped outside, she saw her two dogs circling around a tiny newcomer, and everything suddenly made sense.
In the grass sat a small kitten who didn’t budge from his spot, something that puzzled Lisi’s dogs and kept them barking.
Although the encounter was sudden, Lisi quickly brought the situation under control.
“I was a little alarmed, and the kitten was quite frightened but feisty,” Lisi told The Dodo “As soon as I got out there, the dogs calmed down — they were more curious than anything. I was able to pick up the kitten and we got him into a crate in our garage so we could look him over.”
Lisi immediately began searching for the kitten’s family, going door to door and checking outdoor cameras. Still, she found no leads.
Even though this wasn’t in her plans, the kitten’s future was becoming clearer.
A Forever Spot
Since Lisi didn’t know where the kitten came from, she also couldn’t be sure about his health. Fortunately, aside from being slightly underweight, he was in good shape.
At first, he was a little on edge, which was understandable since everything was unfamiliar to him. But before long, once he relaxed, his true, sweet personality came through.
Lisi’s family quickly grew fond of him, and the best part was that he got along great with the dogs. The warm and peaceful atmosphere in the home led Lisi to make the only decision that felt right: she adopted him.
From a homeless wanderer who stumbled into the yard, this kitten became a cherished member of a loving family, all thanks to his bravery in not running from Lisi’s “big and scary” dogs during those important first moments.
And, of course, thanks to being utterly adorable.
