Heartbreak As Anxious Dog’s Face Shows How Close He Was To Losing Hope At High-Euthanasia Texas Shelter

All it takes for a dog lover’s heart to break is one look at a neglected dog. But then again, all it takes to mend it is one act of kindness.

When Brittani, a dog owner and rescuer from New Jersey, first saw Roger, a senior dog trembling inside a high-euthanasia shelter in Texas, her heart was shattered. Roger was running out of time, his body was frail, and his spirit was all gone.

But rather than giving up, Brittani decided to give her all in and bring Roger home. In the recently posted video on her social media, Roger is shown soaking in all the love, and the look on his face left thousands in tears.

Only Days Away From The Inevitable

In the short clip posted on TikTok, Brittani features Roger sitting on the couch next to his new mom, almost too afraid to look at her.

“This is the day I rescued Roger and brought him home,” the video text reads.

A few moments later, this sweet boi rescued from a Texas shelter leans in and asks for pets. Abused and neglected for years, Roger’s face upon being showered with love reveals one thing: this was the first time he had experienced true love in his life. 

In the past, Roger’s days were filled with nothing but pain. He was found in poor shape, suffering from mange, missing his front teeth, and with one broken ear. 

He’d spend his final days in Texas at a crowded, high-risk shelter where time was short. Then, only days away from euthanasia, Roger was transferred to New Jersey, and began his new life. 

“Roger is my whole heart. I love him so much it took a lot of work because after this video a couple weeks later, he became irritated by a lot of things and was so anxious because he never had a home that loved him before,” Brittani wrote in the video description.

Brittani and her family spent months giving Roger the love he had missed, and plenty of space to adjust.

“I cannot even imagine what this guy has lived through. But I vowed to make the rest of his years the best of his years,” Brittani concluded.

Though still coping with anxiety, Roger has come a long way since that video. And now, he’s living the life of his dreams!

New Life, New Chance

Fast forward a couple of years, Roger, the anxious, trembling pup from Texas has transformed into a loved companion.

At home in New Jersey, Roger now spends his days surrounded by the warmth of his family. He even has other furry siblings who have helped him learn to trust again.

Thanks to Brittani, her husband, and their kids, Roger’s new life is filled with simple joys. He takes walkies, has cozy blankets, and spends time playing in the yard with other dogs.

Despite his golden years, every cuddle, every wag, and every nap is a small victory for Roger. It’s a sign that the anxious shelter dog who once hid from life has finally found a place in it.
