When Zira was a young puppy, she ended up in a packed shelter with her mom and littermates.
Through no fault of their own, the puppies were placed on the euthanasia list.
Once Michaela Hyle learned about the heartbreaking fate awaiting the little family, she rushed to the shelter without hesitation.
When she arrived, Hyle found Zira and one of her brothers were the only ones still there. Heartbroken for them both, she decided to bring the two puppies home.
From that moment on, everything changed for Zira and her brother.
A Pup With A Very Distinct Look

Hyle gave Zira the loving home she so desperately needed. Her brother was also adopted into a wonderful family.
Zira grew into a happy and playful dog who adored snuggles and time with her mom. Her life couldn’t have been better. She was showered with affection and enjoyed every moment.
Now eleven years old, Zira still has plenty of energy. She loves playing with her two dog brothers, Buckeye and Kasson.
Even though Zira seemed like a typical pup, her looks were a bit unusual. Hyle always knew she was a mix, but she didn’t know exactly which breeds were in the mix.

Hyle’s dad used to tease her, saying Zira looked like a coyote. And he wasn’t the only one.
When Hyle’s husband first met Zira, he also joked that she had a coyote-like appearance.
Back when Hyle adopted her, shelter staff claimed Zira was a Rottweiler and German Shepherd mix. But Hyle wasn’t convinced, since Zira didn’t resemble either breed.
She had always wanted to get a DNA test to find out the truth. Not only to prove Zira wasn’t a coyote, but to finally satisfy her own curiosity.
Knowing how much she wanted it, her husband surprised her with a dog DNA test as part of his Christmas gift.
DNA Results Leave Her Family In Disbelief

Once the results were ready, the couple was thrilled. They decided to record the big reveal and share it with their followers in a TikTok video.
Before opening the results, they made some guesses about which breeds Zira might be.
Hyle’s husband guessed she was part Carolina Dog, Siberian Husky, and maybe Coyote. Hyle guessed Cattle Dog mixed with Carolina Dog.

The test results revealed something that neither one of them expected.
Their beloved pup turned out to be 19% Rottweiler, 16% Australian Cattle Dog, 14% Pit Bull Terrier, 7% Siberian Husky, and 5% American Staffordshire Terrier.
Zira also had traces of several other breeds, including Border Collie, German Shepherd, Chow Chow, Golden Retriever, Alaskan Malamute, Chihuahua, Labrador Retriever, Dalmatian, English Springer Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, and Airedale Terrier.

The Arizona couple couldn’t believe it. They never thought Rottweiler would top the list.
Both were sure Zira had Carolina Dog in her, but the results showed otherwise.
Although the findings were unexpected, the DNA test turned out to be a fun and memorable experience.
Now, Zira’s family knows her full breed mix—and they’ve confirmed once and for all that she’s absolutely not a coyote.
