Although rescuers collect countless joyful and heartwarming memories, they also encounter moments they’d rather forget.
Pulling animals from life-threatening situations and discovering them in appalling circumstances can break even the hardest hearts.
That was the case when the team at Mastiff Rescue of Florida Inc. first learned about Gator’s ordeal.
He Deserved Better
A compassionate bystander reached out to the Florida rescue after witnessing Gator being hurled into a lake by the very person who was supposed to care for him.
As the pup struggled beneath the water, this good Samaritan sprang into action and hauled him to safety just in time.
Seeing that Gator’s condition was critical, the kind stranger asked if the rescue could provide him with immediate, loving care. Without hesitation, the Mastiff Rescue team agreed to take him in.
“We picked him up from the shelter and took him immediately to the ER because he had pneumonia … Fortunately, all our supporters helped Gator pull through with their donations,” they wrote in a Facebook post.
Thanks to his fierce spirit and the diligent care of his rescuers, Gator recovered fully far sooner than anyone expected.
Once surrounded by affection, he experienced something new, separation anxiety, because he’d never known what unconditional love felt like before.
Fortunately, a dog lover named Travis was searching for a devoted companion just like Gator.
“When Travis went to meet Gator it was like they had been together, the bond was immediate,” they added.
Having recently lost his beloved Nora Ann, Travis saw adopting Gator as a beautiful way to honor her memory.
Gator settled into Travis’s household as though he’d always belonged, quickly befriending the resident dog and embracing all the comforts of home.
“Gator moved into Travis’s home like he belonged there, he became friends with the other dog and started playing, loved all the comfy dog beds, lounging by the pool, getting in bed with Travis, all the good food. Gator has the life he deserves..LOTS OF LOVE! MRF Thanks Travis and his family for loving this special soul,” they wrote.
Knowing Gator has finally found a family that cherishes and respects him fills my heart with joy. There really is nothing more rewarding than watching a sweet pup thrive!
