California Dog Was Rescued From A Parking Lot, But Her Past Wasn’t What It Seemed

Suzette Hall, a seasoned dog rescuer in Southern California, has been through countless missions.

She has saved strays, pulled abandoned dogs from danger, cared for the severely injured, and arranged homes for countless pups in need. Even with her years of experience, heartbreaking cases still catch her off guard.

This time, she got a call about a little dog dumped near a construction site parking lot. At first, it seemed like another routine rescue. Soon, however, she realized it was far more complicated.

When Hall arrived, her heart sank.

The small pup had been surviving in the parking lot, slipping in and out through a gap in the fence that connected to a trailer park.

“Poor baby found a little hole in a fence in between a mobile home park and a new construction site. That hole led to a small traveling space that would end up inside the mobile homes,” Hall shared on social media.

The dog, later named Bethany, had found friends among the trailer park residents and often played with them.

But as night fell, those friends would return to their homes while Bethany returned to the empty lot where she had been left behind.

“They all had homes to go to but she didn’t,” Hall added.

The sight was crushing. No food, no shelter, no comfort. Just loneliness and constant risk of harm.

Hall knew she couldn’t leave her there.

Determined to help, Hall set a humane trap in the lot. She knew Bethany was terrified of people, so patience was the only way forward.

“She was so scared of people and would run if you got close. I set a trap and waited and waited,” the California rescuer wrote.

But the pup refused to be caught. Every time she approached, something startled her and she bolted.

Finally, Hall moved the trap closer to one of the trailers. Hours later, Bethany stepped inside. She was safe at last.

Now came the next step: finding her a home.

The News Nobody Expected

Bethany, like so many other dogs rescued by Hall, was on her way to a better future. Though she seemed sad leaving her playmates behind, Hall believed brighter days lay ahead.

As Hall prepared her for a foster placement, an unexpected revelation surfaced.

Just a few days after the rescue, Hall received shocking news. Bethany hadn’t been abandoned at all. She had gotten lost.

After being missing from her mom for two months, someone else had found Bethany and dropped her near the lot. All the while, her owner never gave up the search.

“Someone had definitely found her and relocated her. Her mama never gave up and yesterday…We reunited Bebe with her mama. It was just another miracle,” she wrote.

The reunion was everything. Bebe, as her mom called her, was finally back in familiar arms. After weeks of fear and months of separation, she could rest again in a safe, loving home.

Her smile said it all. Two months after disappearing, Bebe was right where she always belonged: home.
