As soon as the workers at a construction waste landfill in Texas noticed a pregnant dog roaming around their site, they knew that she was dumped.
The confused dog desperately searched for food.
Since the landfill is known for being a dumping site for dogs, the staff members always jump in and help the dogs before rescuers arrive.
They tried to help the pregnant dog by leaving her food. However, after a while, the doggo disappeared.
When the dog showed up several days later, looking much skinnier than usual, the staff notified Three Little Pitties Rescue, a rescue located in Houston, Texas, and asked for help.
Looking For The Puppies

Nancy Cowan, the board member and volunteer, rushed to the spot. Having rescued many abandoned mama dogs from the same landfill, Cowan was familiar with the place.
Both she and the workers were sure that the dog gave birth and that she was keeping her newborn babies out of sight.
Since Cowan knew that the mamas like to hide their puppies under the dumpsters, she started searching for them there.
“I spotted a dumpster that had high grass growing around it and a little beaten path going under it. So that was my clue,” Cowan told The Dodo.
Cowan peered under the dumpster and found the doggo caring for her newborn babies.

The rescuer tried to help them, but the dog, later named Lucy, was too afraid to let her approach her puppies.
The rescuer kept visiting them every day, bringing food to the mother dog until she finally won her trust.
Once Lucy realized that she could trust Cowan, she let her take her puppies.

After Cowan collected the puppies and secured the mother dog, she called the rescue team, who arrived shortly afterward.
Lucy and her babies were transferred to a nursery where they started recovering.
Since they were all safe, Lucy could finally enjoy being a mother and nurse her puppies in peace.
In Search Of Happiness

The staff at the nursery pampered Lucy with care and gave her a lot of love during her two-month stay. Thanks to them, the mother dog forgot her sad past.
On Mother’s Day, Lucy’s caregivers wanted to do something special for her, so they served her breakfast in bed.
Lucy had a big smile on her face, and her eyes were filled with love. The doggo was grateful to her caregivers for all their love and care.
“She is one grateful mama and we are grateful to be a part of her journey,” Three Little Pitties Rescue wrote in an Instagram post.
After Lucy completes her spaying procedure, she will start looking for a family who will love her like she deserves.
Her babies flourished into happy pups and they are looking for their place under the sun.
One of the puppies has already found a forever home and the remaining puppies, Rusty, Teddy, Willow, Sadie, and Cleo are ready to be adopted as well.
I hope that both Lucy and her pups will get their happily ever after.
