When McStuffins came to Border Tails Rescue in Northbrook, Illinois, after being transferred from Chicago Animal Care and Control, and it didn’t take long for her to make an impression.
With her gentle personality, endless energy, and striking heterochromia, she stood out instantly. Staff felt certain she wouldn’t be waiting long for a family to call her own.
Their instincts proved right. McStuffins was adopted, and for a while it looked as though she had finally stepped into the life of love and comfort she deserved.
Then, only a few months later, her story took an unexpected turn.
McStuffins Is Returned To The Shelter
After spending several months in the warmth of a home, McStuffins was sadly returned to the shelter.
Her friends, Eric Noxon and Joey Masloski, the content creators behind a TikTok page dedicated to raising awareness about overlooked shelter dogs, were devastated to hear the news.
“It breaks my heart, because she’s so sweet. She just has a bundle of energy, and I think that’s the only thing kind of holding her back,” Noxon said in a TikTok video.
Noxon and Masloski visited McStuffins often, spending time with her playing fetch and taking her on runs. The more time they spent together, the more they grew attached to her.
On one occasion, Noxon and Masloski arrived at the shelter to pick up McStuffins for a playdate, only to find out she had moved in with her new family. They were overjoyed, hoping that this would finally be the happy ending McStuffins had been waiting for.
Unfortunately, McStuffins’ hopes were dashed. After just 24 hours with her new family, the pup was returned to the Illinois shelter.
A volunteer at Border Tails Rescue reassured everyone, saying that at least McStuffins hadn’t been disappointed, as she likely believed her stay with the new family was just a short sleepover.
When another family expressed interest in adopting McStuffins, everyone thought her luck was finally changing. The dog was thrilled, eager to start the happiest chapter of her life.
But heartbreakingly, the family who had promised to adopt her never showed up, leaving McStuffins once again without a home.
McStuffins’ Behavior Starts To Decline
Spending so much time in her kennel, McStuffins’ behavior began to deteriorate. Her heart was full of love, but she had no one to share it with.
It became increasingly difficult for her to maintain her best behavior in the isolation of her kennel.
“It shows you what happens when they sit in the shelter. McStuffins … she’s getting worse and worse,” a Border Tails Rescue volunteer said in a TikTok video.
Despite the setbacks, Noxon and Masloski refused to give up on McStuffins.
They expressed gratitude toward her previous adopters for giving her a chance, acknowledging that those experiences helped them learn what McStuffins truly needed: a home where she would be the only pet and a family with an active lifestyle.
“Thank you to McStuffins’ previous adopter for giving her a shot. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to learn as much as we did,” Noxon said in a TikTok.
Now, McStuffins continues to wait for someone who will see all the amazing qualities she has and will love her just the way she is.
Noxon and Masloski remain hopeful, confident that McStuffins will eventually find her forever family. They won’t stop until she does.
