Hawaii Dog Nicknamed “The Grinch” Takes DNA Test, Results Shock His Family

Hawaii Dog Nicknamed “The Grinch” Takes DNA Test, Results Shock His Family

Every now and then, our dogs decide to surprise us with a little mystery tucked inside their fur. And if any dog knows how to spark the debate, it would definitely be Chief!

From the moment he arrived in his new home in O‘ahu, Hawaii, his owners, as well as everyone around, kept asking the same question: “What breed was he?”

Was this shaggy little rescue, whose wild fur and Grinch-like charm confused everyone, a Terrier mix? Or a Border Collie mix? Every guess seemed possible. Yet all were totally wrong.

When his family finally did the DNA test, the internet nearly fell over. Chief’s results were far from what everyone expected. They were shocking!

How Can This Be

When Chief arrived at his new Hawaii home, his adopters thought they knew exactly what they were getting. The shelter told them he was a Terrier mix.

Over time, Chief grew these thick, wild tufts around his neck, sticking out in all directions. As a result, he was referred to as The Grinch, and honestly, it was hard to argue. The nickname fit him perfectly!

But still, one question remained: was Chief really a Terrier mix? Or was he something else?

Still unsure about his real breed, his owners decided to run a DNA test and put the doubts to rest once and for all. The results, however, were truly shocking!

“When we rescued him, the shelter told us he was a terrier mix. Fun fact, his name wasn’t Chief, it was Taz. Our vet told us she thought he was an Airedale mix. I thought he was a Border Collie. Everyone thought different things. So as you can imagine, I was shocked when I saw these results,” his mom said on TikTok.

In the recent video posted on Chief’s official TikTok page, his mom revealed that Chief was far from what they expected.

He was 100 percent Pit Bull.

To say that Chief’s owners were shocked would be an understatement. While he had a face and build of a Pittie, Chief’s long, shaggy coat sure told a completely different story.

That’s why his owners decided to rerun the test. But again, nothing really changed. The following test showed the same.

“I was like, there’s literally no way this dog has long hair. So they reran the results and they assured me that he is 100% Pit Bull, and that he just carries a recessive trait that causes him to have long hair. I think it’s fair to say that nobody was expecting this,” the Hawaii owner added.

He’s A 100 Percent Good Boi

Chief’s breed reveal soon went viral, earning millions of views in just a few days. Before long, it sparked a wave of fascination in the comments.

Many found it hard to believe that the DNA test was accurate. Others found an explanation in the fact that DNA tests only track back three generations.

But most were simply obsessed with Chief’s Grinch-like charm.

While his owners still have a lot of questions, they’re not upset about the results at all. If anything, they’ve made him more special. He’s 100 percent perfect, unique, adorable, and a good boi!
