When it comes to toys, nothing comes close to the joy they bring to a dog. Right after their humans, toys are their ultimate source of happiness and comfort.
I still remember giving my pup his very first plush toy. His little tail wagged nonstop as he carried it everywhere with pride.
Dogs don’t need much to be happy. Often, the simplest things bring them the most excitement. That’s why it’s so important for pups to have their own stash of toys in their forever homes.
But one Michigan pup named Buttercup has more than enough toys — and she shocked her mom one day with what she chose to do with them.
An Unexpected Scene
One seemingly ordinary day, Michigan dog mom Jackie Markey returned home and froze in disbelief. All 30 of Buttercup’s stuffed toys were scattered across the backyard.
The guilty party was clear. Buttercup stood proudly among her toys, showing no shame at all. For her, this was simply another fun-filled afternoon.
The whole thing started when Jackie’s husband, Don, installed a doggy door. Suddenly, Buttercup had easy access to the outdoors, and she wasted no time making it her playground.
With her newfound freedom, Buttercup created her own routine. She would grab a toy, trot it outside, drop it in the yard, and go back inside to fetch another.
She repeated the process until the entire collection ended up in the grass. Rain, snow, sunshine, or sleet, Buttercup never let the weather stop her.
Her stash of toys has grown huge, and each one finds its way outside eventually.
A Few Favorites
Among Buttercup’s many treasures, her top favorite is a plush husky. That one always seems to make it outside first.
Another is the oversized teddy bear, which often gets stuck halfway through the doggy door as she tries to drag it outside. Watching her wrestle with it has become a comedy show of its own.
Buttercup also has a canine sibling named Peanut. While Peanut is more relaxed and easygoing, sometimes he joins in on her antics. Together, they make a heartwarming pair.
Each evening, Jackie collects every single toy and brings them back inside. By morning, Buttercup is ready to start the whole process over again.
It’s become a daily ritual in their household, one Jackie happily accepts. Seeing her pup so joyful and full of life makes every bit of cleanup worthwhile.
