The sad reality is: countless senior dogs grow old behind kennel doors, never getting a chance for a fresh start. While puppies often find homes quickly, senior dogs are constantly overlooked, even though they’re nothing but sweethearts full of love and life.
Deja, a senior living in a Florida shelter, is definitely one of those dogs.
For nearly three years, she has greeted each new face with hopeful eyes, only to watch families walk past her kennel.
Despite her loving nature, Deja remains in the shelter, with her caregivers doing their best to help her get a chance.
Deja Deserves A Chance
The staff at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples (PBHSN) in Florida have watched Deja wait for years. Every day, this sweet girl looks through her kennel doors, hoping the next set of footsteps will be the ones that finally stop for her.
Despite her age, this loving doggo has never lost her gentle spark. Deja is known for her affection and the cutest “bunny-like zoomies.”
“Deja is a playful, affectionate girl who will keep you smiling—especially when she breaks into her signature bunny-like zoomies,” PBHSN shared on Facebook.
Deja has already entered her golden years. Yet her caregivers emphasize that she is as lively and loving as a dog can be. She’s people-oriented and loves meeting new friends.
“Despite being overlooked for nearly three years, Deja remains full of love and joy, always eager to meet new human friends,” the rescue added.
The staff continues to share updates, including the recent viral video on Facebook where Deja’s daily kennel routine is shown.
Sadly, even after millions of views, Deja is still without a suitable home.
In the meantime, her caregivers do everything in their power to present Deja’s situation in the best way possible. She’s a dog who craves connection, and is definitely more than just her kennel run.
Deja loves walkies, pup cups, playtime in the yard, and going on daily adventures. However, Deja’s only challenge is the fact that she doesn’t get along with other dogs.
“She is not comfortable around other dogs and would do best as the only dog in the home. A calm, patient environment where she can enjoy her golden years at her own pace would be the perfect fit,” the Florida shelter wrote.
Still Waiting
It’s safe to say that Deja’s only wish is to find a loving home to spend her golden years in. In the meantime, the PBHSN team reassures her followers that she is safe and loved.
“We’ve made sure to tell her that thousands of people are rooting for her to find a forever home. In the meantime, please know that Deja is safe, loved, and well cared for while we continue searching for the right match,” the rescue shared in another post.
Deja’s life at the shelter is full of moments of play and the affection of staff who have grown attached to her.
However, her shelter is not a home, and she definitely knows the difference.
For now, she waits, hoping that somewhere the family she has dreamed of may finally be ready to see her… not as another face in a shelter, but as the heart of their home!
