Nobody’s told Hashbrown that spending nearly two years in a shelter isn’t his fault — and that’s what makes this story so hard to bear.
This lovable Pittie mix is the definition of a great dog. He’s gentle, doesn’t bark excessively, loves to play, adores people, and would make a loyal, lifelong companion.
But because of the Pitbull ban in Arkansas, he continues to be passed over — simply due to his breed.
In October 2024, Hashbrown will mark two years as a shelter pup… and his spirit is quietly breaking.
All He Wants Is A Loving Home
Hashbrown arrived at the Sherwood Humane Animal Shelter in Sherwood, Arkansas, on October 14, 2022. From day one, this sweet black-and-white boy has done nothing but shower everyone with affection.
“He’s been at the shelter since October 14, 2022, and that’s such a long time to be without a home. He most likely gets overlooked because he is very quiet, doesn’t bark, he isn’t one to say ‘Hey! tail wag, tail wag, jump, jump look at me!’,” his adoption profile explains.
Unfortunately, being a Pitbull mix hasn’t helped his chances.
Prospective adopters continue to look past him, held back by the local breed restrictions — a heartbreaking reality that’s robbed him of the chance to find his forever family.
While other dogs get adopted and begin new lives, Hashbrown remains behind in his kennel, patiently waiting for someone to choose him.
Yet, even after all this time, his happy spirit shines through. He’s playful, affectionate, and always ready to make new friends — no matter the stigma surrounding his breed.
“If we got to re-name Hashbrown we would name him Goodest because he is the goodest boy ever,” the profile sweetly adds.
Susan, one of the dedicated volunteers at the shelter, has spent time with Hashbrown during his daily outings and knows firsthand just how wonderful he is.
To mark his 600th day at the shelter, she shared a touching video of him lying quietly on his favorite blanket, watching people pass by with heartbreak in his eyes.
“Over 600 days and nights stuck in a kennel. Poor Hashbrown. It’s not fair at all! He needs a hero ASAP,” Susan wrote alongside the video.
Still Hoping
The team at Sherwood Humane Animal Shelter remains hopeful that the perfect adopters for Hashbrown are just around the corner.
Every day he spends in the shelter is another reminder of how urgently he needs a real home. Though the shelter is a safe place, it’s still stressful for dogs — even those as naturally gentle and loving as Hashbrown.
But he hasn’t given up hope.
He’s already neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated.
Hashbrown’s ideal home would have a secure six-foot fence and a nice yard to play in. He’d do best in a house without small animals and possibly with a female dog — although he’d also flourish as the only pet in a household.
He’s eager to meet his forever family — all he needs is a chance.
So if you’re ready to meet a loyal, playful companion with the sweetest heart, Hashbrown is waiting for you.
