Every dog deserves endless love and loyalty, not abandonment and heartbreak.
Yet, time and again, heartless owners continue to betray their dogs’ trust, leaving them behind without a second thought.
Raymond was one of those dogs, completely unaware that the people he trusted most would one day turn their backs on him.
Tragically, that’s exactly what happened. His owners drove him out to a hiking trail in Michigan and left him there, alone to survive.
As their car disappeared from sight, Raymond was left stunned and heartbroken. He truly believed they cared — and that they would come back.
Holding Onto Hope

Raymond settled onto a pile of wood chips near the trail, eyes fixed on the horizon, waiting for the family he still believed loved him.
Even as time passed, his hope never faded.
“Day after day, for five long days, he sat on a pile of wood chips overlooking the parking lot, waiting for his ‘family’ to come back,” The KG Foundation wrote on TikTok.
Hikers passing by couldn’t help but notice the lonely dog who never left his spot, constantly gazing into the distance. Many suspected he had been left behind.

Some tried to help, but Raymond refused to let anyone near him.
One kind woman attempted to rescue him, hoping to bring him to safety, but Raymond didn’t trust her.
Each time someone approached, he bolted, only to return again and again to his wood chip perch, clinging to hope.

Realizing she couldn’t help him alone, the woman reached out to The KG Foundation for assistance.
When founder Jordan Covington heard about the abandoned pup, she didn’t waste a second. She gathered her rescue gear and drove straight to the trail.

Knowing how wary Raymond had been with others, Covington prepared for a long process.
To her surprise, as soon as she offered him food, the pup approached — worn down, hungry, and visibly defeated.
Raymond had finally accepted that his family wasn’t coming back. He was tired, heartbroken, and in desperate need of care.
On The Path To Healing

Covington brought Raymond to animal control, and after his stray hold ended, he was transferred to A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue in Southeastern Michigan.
Once at the shelter, his demeanor began to change.
Raymond was thrilled to meet other dogs and even started wagging his tail.
Covington was relieved to see signs of life returning to him.
“It was the first time I saw his little butt wiggle, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, thank God, because he was really just a shell of a dog,’” Covington told The Dodo.
Just as his recovery began, Raymond fell ill.
He started vomiting, and the shelter staff rushed him to the vet. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and immediately put on oxygen and a treatment plan.
Thanks to the excellent care from the veterinary team, Raymond’s condition improved. Once he was well enough, he returned to the shelter.
Though he’d suffered tremendous loss, Raymond never lost his spirit.

Now, he eagerly seeks out human interaction and is incredibly affectionate.
He’s currently looking for a foster home where he can continue healing.
When he’s fully recovered, Raymond will begin his search for a forever family, one that will love him unconditionally and never leave his side.
