A mother’s love is boundless and everlasting. Her joy is tied entirely to the safety and well-being of her children.
When they are threatened, she gives everything she has to shield them and protect them no matter the cost.
A mama dog from Tennessee found herself in that very position. Like many other abandoned dogs, she had been left behind by people who showed her no kindness or compassion.
Alone and with no one to turn to, she discovered a small spot by a creek where she gave birth to twelve precious puppies. She poured her heart into caring for them, doing everything possible to keep them alive while hoping for a miracle.
Hope Arrives For The Family
When local rescuer Sarah Kodad learned about the mama dog and her twelve babies, she was devastated. She knew right away she had to do something.
“[I felt] sad and angry that another dog had been dumped,” Kodad told The Dodo.
Having been an animal advocate for years, she feels deeply hurt whenever she hears about innocent puppies being abandoned by those they trusted most.
“They’re such loyal companions, who give their all for their humans or families. It’s not fair for them to be tossed away or mistreated,” she added.
Determined to help, Kodad tracked the mama dog through the area until she finally discovered the hiding place where the little family was staying.
Her heart broke when she realized that one of the puppies had already crossed the rainbow bridge.
Gently, she gathered the mother dog and the rest of her babies, placing them carefully into her car. She reassured them that everything was going to be better from that moment on.
The mama seemed to understand. Once she realized her little family was finally safe, she relaxed and even managed a grateful smile.
Without wasting time, Kodad started arranging proper care for the family. She reached out to Rubies and Rogues, a nonprofit devoted to helping animals and supporting the community.
Through their support, Kodad was connected with a foster family who eagerly welcomed the mama and her puppies into their home.
For the first time since giving birth, the mama dog could rest without fear. She could focus on feeding and comforting her puppies without worrying about food or safety. In the warmth of a caring home, she was finally able to breathe easy.
A Bright Future Ahead
Kodad later shared the canine family’s story on Facebook. That’s when Joel, a kindhearted man from Colorado, came across the post.
Having recently lost his beloved dog, Joel immediately felt a strong connection to the abandoned mama. He wanted to give her all the love he still carried in his heart.
He submitted an adoption application and was approved.
Once the puppies are fully weaned, Joel will make the trip from Colorado to Tennessee to bring the mama dog home and give her the forever family she deserves.
The puppies, too, will soon be ready to find their own loving homes, and there is no doubt that they will be adopted into caring families.
Thanks to the efforts of Sarah Kodad, Rubies and Rogues, and the foster family who stepped in at just the right time, this canine family has been given a chance at a whole new life.
Because of their compassion, the mama dog and her little ones have a bright future ahead.
