So many dogs endure hardships through no fault of their own. Life on the streets, paired with cold weather, lack of food, and little to no shelter, leaves countless pups in heartbreaking condition.
One such case unfolded in Virginia, where a dog was discovered in such a terrible state that rescuers couldn’t even determine her breed.
She surrendered herself completely to the people who stepped in to help. From that moment on, her recovery began, and the dog, later named Glowup, stunned everyone who followed her journey.
A Rough Beginning
Animal control officers in Petersburg, Virginia, found Glowup and quickly brought her to Richmond Animal League where the team accepted her without hesitation.
Her condition was alarming. Her skin was raw and inflamed due to a severe case of demodectic mange,leading staff to initially believe she might be a Shar Pei.
“When this sweet girl arrived, her skin suffered from a nasty case of Demodex. She was missing hair, was covered in scabs, and her skin was thickened,” RAL wrote on Facebook.
Despite her suffering, her caregivers devoted themselves to her recovery. She was given medication and soothing medicated baths, but more importantly, she was surrounded by love.
Day by day, the mix of treatment and tender care allowed her to open up and reveal her sweet nature. It wasn’t long before everyone at the rescue was completely smitten with Glowup’s personality.
In only a few weeks, Glowup began to heal. Her coat improved, her skin cleared, and for the first time in a long while, she was safe.
The Truth Revealed
As Glowup grew stronger, her real identity came to light.
What had once appeared to be the wrinkles of a Shar Pei were actually signs of her untreated condition. Once healed, the staff finally discovered that Glowup was a lovable Pitbull mix.
In celebration, the Richmond Animal League posted her remarkable transformation in a Facebook post, sharing her “before and after” photos.
“We began a course of treatment that included medicated baths to help her skin and the results speak for themselves. We think Ms. Glowup should be in ads for the shampoo; I mean, look at her amazing before and after photos,” the RAL team wrote.
The once unrecognizable pup had blossomed into a cheerful, affectionate dog, ready to embrace a life filled with love. While much of her past remains a mystery, one thing is certain: Glowup will never again face such uncertainty.
When the right family comes along, there’s no doubt that she’ll bring endless love to their lives and, in return, finally have the cozy home she always deserved.
