North Carolina Dog Rescued From A Crate Begins The Life She Never Got To Live At Last

Freedom was something Tyla had never really known. Her world was painfully small, a life spent chained to a crate, hidden under a tent by an owner who kept her shut away from everything beyond it.

And inside that crate, comfort was hardly part of the picture. An old baking sheet was the only surface she had to rest on, which is about as bleak as it sounds.

She was a dog who should have had the basics, care, safety, kindness, something gentle and steady.

Instead, even those simple things were missing. She got by on scraps tossed into her enclosure, as if that were enough.

By then, Tyla was physically drained and emotionally exhausted. Still, she stayed there quietly, hanging on to the smallest bit of hope that maybe, somehow, someone would finally come for her.

When Help Finally Arrived

Thankfully, news of Tyla’s shocking living conditions reached local authorities. Police officers stepped in, rescuing her from the abusive environment, and her owner was later charged.

Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, a committed animal rescue organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina, took Tyla into their care and rushed her to the veterinarian for urgent medical attention.

Her condition was heartbreaking. She was dangerously underweight and suffering from both a painful paw infection and a fungal ear issue.

The veterinary team started her on antibiotics and carefully developed a feeding schedule to help her regain her health.

Once she was stable enough, Tyla moved into a foster home where she could begin her emotional and physical recovery.

Her foster mom, Avery Andolina, worried at first that Tyla might be distant or afraid after so much trauma.

But what happened next took everyone by surprise.

From the very first moment they met, Tyla leaned in for affection, as if she instantly knew she was finally safe.

“She saw us and like instantly wanted love. It’s almost like she had missed out on that for so long and she knew what she was missing that she was just like so ready for us to love on her, for her to love on us,” Avery told GeoBeats Animals.

Because she had spent nearly her entire life confined in a crate, Tyla didn’t know what a bed was. At first, she avoided the crate completely and even destroyed anything placed inside it.

With time, consistency, and gentle training, she began to trust again. Now, when Avery and her partner are away, Tyla relaxes comfortably inside her crate, finally viewing it as a safe place rather than a source of pain.

The Start Of A New Life

When she first arrived, Tyla couldn’t walk on hard surfaces because of her damaged paws. Avery made sure to walk her only on soft grass until her feet healed.

As her paws recovered, she began to enjoy her daily walks, another important step in her journey toward healing.

Avery couldn’t be prouder of Tyla’s progress. She calls her the perfect companion and marvels at how much love she still has to give after everything she’s endured.

“Even though Tyla was clearly mistreated by humans, has a rough past, she definitely does not let that affect her. She is still so loving towards humans and so trusting of them, which is just amazing that she is able to come this far,” Avery added.

Today, Tyla continues to live in her foster home in North Carolina while she waits for her forever family. She hasn’t yet received adoption applications, but Avery and the rescue team remain hopeful that someone will see just how special she is.

When that day comes, there’s no doubt Tyla will embrace her new life with the love and joy she has always deserved.
